Ok, so it seems like a lot of people on here don't think this is much of a worthwhile upgrade, but I finally got a hold of a thread I read a couple years back and wanted to see what you guys thought of the theory in it.

http://www.nissanexa.com/showthread.php ... th+overlap

so what do you guys think? i figure if you have the time and money to play with adjustable cam gears and tinker with the timing while on a dyno then you may as well just buy cams. but as far as just dealing with stock parts what would you think?

Don't know where the OP in that thread got his info but he is mistaken about the DE cam spec's. I suspect that he is mixing up the CA16DE spec's with the CA18DE spec's.
Here are the actual spec's:
EURO spec CA16DE....
In lift - 8.5mm
Ex lift - 8.5mm
In duration - 248
Ex duration - 248
In opens - 15 BTDC
In closes - 53 ABDC
In center lobe angle - 109deg
Ex opens - 59 BBDC
Ex closes - 9 ATDC
Ex center lobe angle - 115deg

JPN spec CA18DE S13...
In lift - 7.8mm
Ex lift - 8.5mm
In duration - 240
Ex duration - 248
In opens - 0 BTDC
In closes - 60 ABDC
In center lobe angle - 120deg
Ex opens - 59 BBDC
Ex closes - 9 ATDC
Ex center lobe angle - 115deg

JPN spec CA18DET S13...
In lift - 7.8mm
Ex lift - 8.5mm
In duration - 240
Ex duration - 248
In opens - 0 BTDC
In closes - 60 ABDC
In center lobe angle - 120deg

EDIT!!

Actually (now that i've found my full list of cam spec's) if you can find a EDM CA18de cam then the spec's he quoted are correct.

Ex opens - 50 BBDC
Ex closes - 18 ATDC
Ex center lobe angle - 104deg

Ex lift - 8.5mm

The EXA wasn't a big seller over here so they aren't exactly common and the regular Pulsar's here came out with a SHOC engine.
AFAIK all the CA16 all have the big lift and extra duration.
Form what i have seen, the engines that had the butterfly 8 port intake setup have the smaller inlet cam and the 4 port head engines have the bigger inlet cam, regardless of engine size.

From what i have found it's the timing difference that the bigger intake cam has that gives you the extra power, and really it more a midrange boost than outright peak power.

well, when i said they have a lot of access to them, i meant among the EXA owners. they already have the cams when the swap in a DET. and for those who don't want them there may be others in the community who do.

and i see what your getting at. well, i guess more torque can almost always be a plus, even if it's not in the top end

Somewhere on this forum there are pictures of me measuring my CA16 cams vs. my 18DET cams. They are as stated by D Stirls above. Totally worth $0, but I wouldn't spend more than 20 or 30 bucks for them.
