Ok so i've been saving up money to replace the clutch on my sr'd s13 and i finally have enough to get it replaced...but sometimes the clutch works perfectly, it was slipping like crazy for 3/4 days about a week ago but since then it's worked perfectly and i haven't done anything to it, also the clutch pedal always activated at the start of travel but for some reason today after work (worked perfect before work) it wouldn't activate until the end of travel, i drove it like this to my other job and then started to notice that the clutch pedal wouldn't always return all the way after i let my foot off, almost like it was gummed up due to the cold weather, then the clutch started slipping out of nowhere, any rpm over 2000 would cause the engine to free rev, after a couple miles and a couple intersections i decided to gas it up again to see if it was still doing it and to my surprise i was able to floor it all the way through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear without ANY slipping...WHAT GIVES? i'm not spending 350 for a new clutch if that isn't the problem...PLEASE help, thx!

first off, you're supposed to break in your new clutch pretty slowly, since it's basically just a really heavy duty friction surface. my take is <3500rpm for 750 miles, no slipping over ~1200rpm.

second, usually when you replace a clutch on these cars, it is advizeable to change the clutch slave cylinder at the same time since it's a piece of crap and only costs $15 at autozone. bleed your clutch system and tighten the bolts on your slave cylinder and see if you're still having these problems. then adjust the clutch pedal. if you still have problems, see if your slave cylinder is leaking or sticking. if not, it's possible either something else like the master cylinder is acting up or that you've beaten your new clutch into toast.

oh, and BTW, if you didn't resurface your flywheel when you changed the clutch, that would cause this too, and the only way to fix it is to go back and do it ASAP before it causes funny wear issues with your new clutch.

this happens to my SR at times. i realized it was my rear main seal (located between the flywheel and rear of the engine crank). in regards to the teg man, resurface the flywheel, and get under the car and see if the slave bleeds a little air and fluid out the boot. if yes, replace.

mm good call on the rear main seal. when i go in to replace the clutch and flywheel on my SR, that will be on the list of things to do, along with clutch slave cylinder, pilot bearing, clutch dampener removal, synchronizer and possibly shift collar and gear replacement/reconditioning, nismo clutch fork pivot ball upgrade, and maybe others i've forgotten.

worst case scenario is when the blocking rings teeth are gone (even worse is the gears themselves). blocking ring failure is the first to occur before gear failure (missing teeth, etc). if it shifts like crap and doesnt go anywhere, also consider this.

what do you mean by "blocking rings?" you mean the shift collar aka slider ring? yeah, it sucks when those go. very expensive. i know on the honda transmissions that fill most of my time they're over $700/set new, and the stealership is the only place to get them other than used.

i work at this parts distribution place here in the bay, and ive seen a pair of OEM blocking rings for a lot of car brands. if those should go, ask me and ill try to find those parts for you at low cost (hook up, ugh!). anyway, hope you find the problem, bossman.
