That really burns me up. All this talk about the holland plant and another plant overseas does as well. Can we not produce anything in this country anymore? If the government provides money in a grant form like this it should stay in our economy and provide jobs for working Americans, not some shmucks to go watch movies and volunteer on the company dime.

It definitely sucks, and whoever is in charge of dispensing that money has some real explaining to do. But I wonder if anyone noticed that same firm got $175million in Michigan state and local tax breaks in addition to the $150million in federal grants. Sounds like more folks got boondoggled than just the Obama administration. While not writing better federal rules for the use of grant money is obvious, a few other thoughts:

1. I'm curious who (assuming it's someone in Congress) championed this firm in order to get these grants. Seems like there's more to this scandal than just the Obama administration giving taxpayer money to bums.

2. Did the state/local money come before or after the federal money?

I don't really care who backed this firm to get the money. What frustrates me is our seemingly utter lack of oversight when it comes to dolling out money. We could cut our deficit by quite a bit, I'm sure of it, if we would just do a better job of monitoring and regulating our outgoing monies.

I agree, lack of oversight for this kinda stuff seems to plague our government, and is disturbing regardless of what party occupies the white house. For example, how could Bernie Madoff have gotten away with his crimes for so many years? But it would certainly be interesting to know who the congressional sponsor was that vouched for these bums and what they knew about it.

As an auditor and investigator, I approve of this statement.

When the GAO becomes an independent, non-partisan, watchdog group, that reports to its stakeholders (TAXPAYERS) just like every other auditing office, we'll be well on our way to a trustworthy system.

I'm not optimistic.
