Bought a quart of 10W30 Full-Synthetic off-brand oil (called "SuperTech") so you guys could decipher it. Label states: This oil meets or exceeds API service SL, SJ, and ILSAC GF-3. Costs about 1/3 of Mobil 1 per-quart.

No other info - How does this compare w/Mobil 1 and will I give up significant performance to spend $2.50 less per quart?

Thanks guys!

Do a search on my thread "A New Oil". I asked the same questions and got some good answers.

Thinik I'm gonna go ahead and buy a few cases - These $55 oil changes every 3K AND $42 fillups every week are killing us.

Q45tech indicated in a post a while back that he is changing his oil quaterly regardless of the miles so If your racking up the miles quickly that could save you a few bucks.

Let's see... The average range of a Q45 is 350 miles and let's say you fill up 50 times a year ( let's say 2 weeks a year you're either camping or attending a relgious retreat ;). That gives estimated yearly mileage of ~ 16,000K/year +/- a 1,000. 5 or 6 oil changes/yr. You could save some coin going to the quarterly schudule. ( I hope Dennis approves of my arithmetic)

Now let's see how much you'd save at current gas prices if you traded in the 'Burban on something efficient. OK, $42/fillup at 50 fillups/yr ...... :D

Even when I was driving 30k per year I went with Mobil 1 and 90day oil changes but tried to keep it under 7,000 miles currently still with Mobil I and driving maybe 15,000 miles I still do it every 90 days~~~3,750..........with 246k the oil gets dirty fast.

There is always something to attend to every 90days.........now if I could just keep the tires in balance and from spinning on the rims.

Mike, you buckethead. The Q has a range of about 270 miles. But I'm going to quarterly changes anyhow.:D

Also, the Burb costs $77 to fill up, approx every 3-4 weeks (not driving it THAT much anymore). HOWEVER, the payments on a more "efficient" replacement vehicle (one that can haul 3 kids, 2 dogs, and lots of sports equipment AND can go off-road at least once a month) would be roughly $400/month. AND, it'd only get maybe 8 more MPG than the Burb. Think I'll stick with the PAID-FOR vehicle.

p.s. Check out the fuel mileage on the new Jeep Liberty. I had guess it'd be around 20, right? WRONG. Popular Mechanics magazine got no better than 13 mpg in their long-term test. Pretty miserable.

Only 270 miles? Ouch, that's gotta hurt these days. I feel for you. And the 'Burban, too... Damn that dependency on foriegn oil! ;)
