Well the GF's 03 2.5s Altima fell victim to the crankshaft position sensor illness. I searched the location, had a diagnostics done, bought a new sensor from Autozone and went to replace it. The part I got from Autozone was wrong, so I went to the Nissan dealer (whom sucks!!!) bought the sensor from them which ended up being the exact same part # as the Autozone part. It appears the part was assembled incorrectly with the tab for the wiring harness on the wrong side meaning I had to flip the harness which inturn caused the harness to hit something causing the sensor to not be able to sit all the way in the block.

Pics

WTF, anybody got a pic of there sensor or a correct part # for me?

ThanksChris Scronce

Here's a link for the Crankshaft position sensor for 2002-2004 3.5L ... I do not see a sensor part # listed for a 2.5 though. Give them a call & they should be able to get you the correct part #.

The part that the dealer sold you is correct. Nissan redesigned the part to better protect it from failure, hence the metal sheath. The part number that they sold you appears to be a 23731-6N21A. The sensor has to be plugged in first and then installed, that's why your having so many problems. This is also the new camshaft position sensor as well.

I know this because I sell probably 10-15 of these a week. Even some Nissan technicians have a hard time with them, because they aren't aware that it has to be plugged up before installation.

BTW, that sensor has been out for about 4-5 months, and we have NEVER had one of these fail.

100% correct. I've replaced hundreds of these sensors and have never had a updated (metal) sensor return. Plug the sensor in, make sure the tab retracts, then install.
