another coupe down

So heres the story. Saturday night I'm driving back to the dorm with two buddies after we went to get something to eat. Its about 7:30 so there is a decent amount of traffic, (for those of you who know Atlanta highways you know the whole southbound 75/85 merge is a PITA) so anyways I'm all the way over to the right because I'm about to get off at the North Avenue exit...usually no problem, but the line to get off at N. Ave was longer than normal so i slow down to a complete stop further down on the off-ramp. I was stopped for about a second until someone slams into my back right quarter in front of my back wheel. They were going highway speeds and i was stopped so it it set off all my right side airbags (thankfully they protected my two buddies). there were about five or six other vehicles involved, apparently someone blew a tire behind me and sent a bunch of people swerving all over, and one of them hit me. it shut down 85 south completely for about 30 minutes. somehow i still got a ticket?? So i have to go to court about that. But the good thing is that nobody was hurt.

I'm so sorry to hear that bad news. Good thing your ok. Anyway what did the Police officer give you a ticket for? I'm sure it will be dropped in court just curious of what he/she could have possibly gave you if you did not hit another car or be the reason the collision started.

That really sucks. I hate North Ave. because it always backs up so far into traffic. I hope court goes okay for ya, get there early because finding some place to park down there is just about impossible. Glad your alright, hopefully you aren't banged up too bad!

I remember when I first got my coupe there weren't any around here, and now they're popping up like crazy. I always see a silver on around in the city, its got a big dent in either the side or the back (I can't remember now). There's a white 3.5 that I always seem to see around my house too.

i looked up the violation code and it says that I was "following too closely". Im not too sure that I get it, unless I'm missing something, because I was at a stop waiting for the light to turn. As for my arm it's just like a lateral whiplash/ bad sprain with muscle spasms. I'm not sure whats going to happen with the damage costs, I have to wait for the insurance person to come out and look at it. I'm not sure as to what exactly they look for when determining the damage costs.

I hate atlanta traffic. I've been there a couple of times for business. I'm actually going back the first two weeks of March.

Atlanta traffic has gotten so much worse outside the city lately that it's almost bearable downtown. I have to agree that its bogus for you to get a ticket. I haven't had any problems with regular City of Atlanta cops, but the DUI task force is horrible, when they pull you over they will find any reason to give you a ticket if your sober. I got a speeding ticket (and while I was speeding I was going considerably slower than everyone else (was in the right lane too) but I got pegged for being out at 2:00am in a Black Audi A4 with dark windows and not drinking. Hell I got pulled over up here by my house in Gwinnett a few weeks back for wearing my seat belt and not having an expired tag. It's the second time in the past few years I've been pulled over for not having an expired tag, wtf is up with that!?

yeah I'm definitely going to fight it. I have a required court date because of where I got hit (thats what the police said, ??)

I just heard back from the Nissan collision center and they said from their initial inspection that it is totaled. One of the main reasons they said is because both of the side airbags deployed, and they said that those alone would be about $4,000. So we'll see when the insurance adjuster comes later this week.

haha no it's ok. I guess it's mixed emotions if it does get totaled. Bad because I really liked the car, but excited because I'm the kind of person who likes new and exciting stuff. If in the case that it does get totaled and I need a new car I plan to stay in the Nissan/ Infiniti family and possibly the A/C family. I just gotta see how everything falls right now.

What was the damage on the car you hit ??? You didn't mention anything on the car you hit, but that's what i'm assuming if the cop gave you a ticket for being too close. There's no way he could tell after an accident if you were or not.

actually no, I just brought my car down to school this semester, and before that is was just sitting at home, so I didn't invest anything in it yet. The thing that sucks is that I was about to start ordering stuff in the next month or two...now this.

thats the thing, I didn't hit anyone else, someone only hit me. Even though I told the cop that I didn't hit anyone, he said that since he wasn't an accident investigator he couldn't determine if i did or not, and since he damage was not centered around the back (usually indicating that you were hit, so he says, but makes sense) he had to give me a ticket. I still don't know how I was following too close when I was stopped in traffic. I think that it is pretty obvious that i didn't hit anyone due to the angle of where I was hit, and the fact that I was on the far right lane and still got hit on the right. Hopefully when they get someone to look at everything they will see what actually happened.
