So, summer has arrived, and with it massive overheating issues, right?
Anyways, my car (1992 240SX, KA24DE) has decided that it cant hold its water, and has developed a coolant leak.
My chief suspect is the water pump, but my symptoms are thus:
1: A coolant leak when the car is running. Seems to start about 30 seconds after the car does. A steady stream of coolant dripping down the block from the accessory drive area. My thinking is that the water pump is weeping.
1b: Stops pretty much instantly when the car is turned off, its constant when the car is running.
2: Intermittent heater function. I think this is down to the fact that the car is losing enough coolant that the core isnt getting any hot water. If I refill the radiator and bleed the system, the heater works fine until it runs low on coolant again.
2b: The first time I noticed the problem, I turned the heater on and nothing happened. No hot air. I then noticed that the temp needle was way up (though not pegged). A few minutes later, as I was about to pull over, the temp needle dropped like a rock and the heater started working again. Could this be due to intermittent water pump function?
That's pretty much it.
Mylast question is: is there a place where I can find a decent walkthrough on replacing the pump?
Thanks!!
