Driving across town today my clutch started to just "sink" into the floor board when I touched it. I could drive perfectly fine but it was a pain in the butt to get into the other gears. When my clutch went out in my crx, I could barely move at all...all it did was just rev up. Is my clutch gone or is it just low on fluids? I'm lost and dont know what to do considering I'm supposed to be leaving my house in 25 minutes to meet up with everyone, haha

check fluid and bleed that sucka' if that doesn't work then probably a clutch cylinder. if it's pressureplate/clutch disc problem. then you would probably see other symptoms occur before foul pedal play.

Had the exact same problem in an 88 Saab. Both Saab and 240sx use a similar clutch disk system, so check it out.

If you're havin' to push your foot to the floor to get your clutch to engage and allow shifting, it isn't your clutch. A toasted clutch does jack 'n crap while you stand on the gas, in any gear. However a spongy pedal that does allow shifting is leaky cylinder / low fluids like getheflow suggested.

If there's a leak in fluids somewhere, there's not gonna be much pressure in the lines. AND, every time you release your foot from the clutch pedal, that same leak that's letting fluid out is gonna be suckin' air in. With little to no pressure in your clutch lines there's no way the throwout bearing can depress the pressure plate and engage/disengage your clutch.

When I had this problem I ignored the leak, kept topping off the reservoir, and learned the hard way that it was a dumbass idea. It cost me a transmission. Crushing your car into gear is horrible for a transmission, and one with over 150k miles on it is going to lay down and die under that kind of abuse. Get the leak fixed ASAP. Find it yourself or pay a mechanic to diagnose the clutch lines -- you'll save a ton of cash, trust me.

It's a hydraulic problem. Seals are bad. Go to autozone and get a rebuild kit for both the master cylinder and the slave cylinder.

Cylinder might be dead too though. I had the same problem last month, my pedal wasn't sinking, but I couldn't shift worth ****. Had to get Aamco to tow it, diagnose it, and fix it. Towing was 60 bucks, the master and slave, with bleeding and everything was 250. It's worth it. Don't wait until your transmission is damaged. I went with Aamco cuz I don't know anything about trannie's and I don't have the resources to fix it myself, even if I did. So it's up to you. But I stress, as Newcastle says, don't wait on it. You'll regret it. PEACE. Tek.

Appreciate the help. I'm gonna get it towed to my mechanic tomorrow morning. Good thing I got free towing under insurance. Thanks again

This is way overkill, fix the cheap stuff first! 75% of the time it is just to seals that go bad.. 10 dollars will get you rebuild kits for both the master and slave from autozone... If you take em apart and the walls are scored then you know what to do...

**** learn how to do stuff yourself, for $250 I could get a BRAND NEW Nismo master AND slave...
