We see the same issue on virtually the whole Nissan line, although most frequently on the L33 and R52. I should point out that the switch and the repair is similar for virtually all models. The location and type of actuator will differ, but they all use a molded, detachable switch carrier with the same type switch.
Yes, but you can't just disable the switch. You either have to disable it mecahanically by wedging or removing the lever, or electrically by jumping the switch and connecting the solenoid to keyed power instead of battery.
