Here is the scenario - AC suddenly stops cooling. 2002 Altima. Dealer shop investigates, concludes problem is electrical, and the culprit is the IPDM. IPDM replaced, AC is cooling for about 20 minutes. Before I can even get there to pick up the car, they call me back to tell me that suddenly the AC has stops cooling because the clutch on the compressor has just seized! The service department tells me that both of these expensive parts have failed. Cost to me: IPDM at 500 bucks, and compressor another 500 bucks, plus labor which is another 500 bucks or so. Plus tax, supplies and anything else they can find a way to put on the bill.
So, what are the chances that the IPDM stops sending power to engage the AC compressor, followed 20 minutes later by a failure of the clutch itself. Next to nil I suspect, I would be more likely to win the lottery (if I was stupid enough to buy a lottery ticket). Much more likely is that the technician misdiagnosed a problem with the IPDM, swapped the part at my expense, only to discover the actual problem was with the compressor all along.
I am not going to pay this bill happily. I would be grateful for anyone else's experience on knowledge on the subject to help me see the light.
