Yeah!!! I helped with a 5 spd swap!

Many many thanks go to Chuey2 (NICO 'vert member and my new friend!). He is an excellent mechanic.... Boy it is nice to have friends around who know what they are doing.

My little brother's (Omnikron on NICO - Joel) convertible is now a 5 spd!

Chue and I spent pretty much all day Saterday working on it. My brother had most of the parts. Fortunately Chue had a 5spd shell sitting around that we could steal a few extra parts from.

Thanks a ton to Bart (Tenkawa_Akito) for his writeup on the 5spd swap. We followed all of his instructions and everything worked perfectly!

We'll be replacing those missing parts from Chue's spare car asap, and hopefully doing the same 5 spd swap on Chue's car soon. We'll do a full step by step pictorial to add to the 5spd swap article when we do it.

Anyhow.. just thought I would share.

I would think the typical swap is about $500 worth of parts. It took the two of us about 10 hours. Granted my labor took at least 2x as long as it should cause I'm a newbie.

I bet we'll get the next one done in 6 - 8 hours since we'll know what were doing.

I would bet a shop would charge between $500 and $1000 on labor... depending on how they quote it out.

I got all my parts from powerline's shop in Fl. cost me around $350 for the parts and about $120 to have them shipped to NC via carrier truck. I did the swap so no cost for labor. Here is powerline's website http://www.orlandopowerline.co....html Hope this helps...do the swap...you will not be sorry.

if you dont have the means to do the transmission swap you could do the pedals and master cylinder that way all you need the shop to do is take yours out and put that one in.. plus take out the piolt baring.

they would probelly chage $200 for that

I didn't think it was that tough.. But i didn't really do a ton underneath the car.

It was a real pain trying to get the brake pedal and clutch pedal installed properly. My hands are too fat to get into some of the tight places... like the bolt that hold the brake pedal to the firewall are directly behind the steering column. What a pain.. even after dropping the column. It's sucks being upside down and underneath the dash like that.. you have to be some kind of contorsionist.

i would have to agree it is a pain.. to get your hands in there.... but droping the steering colum makes it that much easyer
