I bought my 2012 G37x new. At the time, I put down a 50% down-payment and financed the rest through Infiniti. My payments were to end in December 2015 after 4 years (though I recently paid off the car to clear to lien to pave the way to selling it, but that's another story.)

In May or I get this call from a sales dude at the Dealer I bought the car from. He says to me, "I want to buy your 2012 G37x because I've got a guy who wants to buy it" :lolling:

"Uh huh"

"I can see that your financing will come to an end in about 6 months (WTF?) and I think I can get you a great deal on a new Infiniti that combined with your old car will mean you won't be paying any more than you are now and you can have a new car"

Anyway, I tell the guy how much I despise my 2012 G37x due to its poor performance, how much I LOVED and miss my old 2005 G35x, etc. and ask why on God's green earth should I give Nissan any more of my hard earned money when my current car has been such a POS? So he tells me that the new Infiniti Q50 "has been completely redesigned" implying that I won't have the same problems with a new one as I have with my existing one. (But that's another story.) I know this isn't the case since the drive train on the 2015 is the same as the 2012, but I talk to him anyway.

Anyway, he was pretty persistent. He wanted me to "book an appointment to see him" (which I find hilarious, he's not my dentist, but I'm curious, so I tell him maybe Saturday and he rattles off various times on Saturday where he has clients coming in and is not available to see me, etc. etc.) I guess he figures that I will adjust to suit his schedule.
Meanwhile I'm thinking, this is not the way to sell a car, make people figure that it's on your schedule.

Anyway, in all my years of buying cars, I've never had a salesman call me up knowing that my payments were coming to an end. In fact, I've never had a sales guy that had sold me a car in the past call me up and try to sell me another car.

Obviously, this is all just BS. I know that. He does not have a buyer for my car, he's just singing me that song in order to try and sell me a new car. But the wild thing was, he knew that my payments were going to be ending. I'm speculating that he also knows that I've financed 3 vehicles through Nissan since 2005 and I've never missed a payment or given them any grief for that matter. So I'm a mark.

The dealer obviously is tracking these things now and the salesman was given "a lead".

I don't know if it bothers me or not to be honest. I just found it unusual.

Same dude called me a total of 3 times (I think he's given up recently.)

Yep, it's a high pressure sales tactic that the more unscrupulous dealerships employ because there are dimwits out there that fall for it. It's like that Nigerian Prince scam (and it's variants) that's been around for 20+ years, there are people that still fall for it.
