Hey guys - Just a quick announcement on the topic of signature sizes... *collective groan* Please take a minute and read carefully.

We've always been VERY lax on the topic.

Other forums are incredibly strict about it.

We're a little spoiled, because we have a TON of bandwidth and space available, so we've never really made an issue of it.

However, it *has* gotten a bit out of hand, and we CAN make better use of our space.

I'd encourage ALL of you to take a good hard look at your sig.

- If it's got a funny quote and it's been up a while, chances are it's no longer funny.

- If it contains a picture or reference to an "inside joke", chances are it's not only no longer funny, but it's also confusing to new people.

- If it's got a pic of your car, and it's a big pic, consider replacing it with a small, clickable image. You can even LINK it to your NICO Member's Rides gallery! Keith (Rex) will pop in and show you how. (I hope.)

- If it's linking to another forum, a non-sponsoring shop or company, or a competing website, it's prohibited anyway, so please do the right thing.

- If you don't want to look at other people's signatures while you're surfing NICO, there's an option in the User Control Panel (see the button at the top of the screen) to turn signatures off.

We have grown SO big, in such a SHORT amount of time, that I think sometimes we forget how we appear from the outside.

I never want us to lose the "small club" atmosphere and the sense of family we have here - But the reality is, we are not just playing with the big boys, we ARE the big boy. Let's look like it.

I'm not going to make limitations on this, nor do I want to TELL people what to do... Use your best judgement, and consider this a friendly request (with a "pretty please" attached ).

We're not going to be intervening on this for a while. But I'll be asking the other Admins to start "trimming" signatures after a week if they remain huge.

Hope you guys understand.

As always, thanks for your loyalty and participation. We're the best because of our members.

Update:NOTE: Maximum signature size should be no larger than 600x200

It wil only be a matter of time until people find something else to moan about..........maybe avatars? Who knows? The internet isn't a perfect place and will never suit people's tastes.

I just don't understand why folks that don't like sigs do not just turn them off!! I mean come on you could have done that faster than posting in this thread!! Who cares if people don't like sigs, I don't reply to people with "I LIKE SIGS"

This topic is overrated

No prob Greg (Hitman). Is my sig too big? I tried to make it as small as possible while still being visible.

I kinda wish we had bigger avatars. Not huge like some videogame forums, but maybe 10-15 pixels bigger? Some stuff looks so tiny when you try to resize something and squeeze it in. Took me forever to find a decent dragon pic that still looked good when it was downsized. Not really a complaint though, since I found a good pic. It will suffice for now

Large sigs definately annoy me. It just makes for more crap to scroll through. I do howerver, like sigs. They make it easier for people to differentiate between members.

I kind of agree here. It took me a long time to get my Macabre to look almost halfway decent at this size.

But yeah, large sigs annoy me a lot. When they take up an entire screen's worth of vertical space, it's time to trim.

This topic is overrated
It is good to have the info in some sigs, so turning them off for viewing completely, globally, is not a good option realistically. Cause then you miss the ones that contain valid stuff.

Which is why, although I hate scrolling through the same sig for page after page (when a user has made many posts in the same thread), I prefer to have them on.

When I remember, I do try to prevent my sig from showing on multiple posts in the same thread. However, my sig is short enough that I do not feel bad if I forget!

I posted a program a couple of days ago (only for MacOSX, but there may be a Windows port) called SnapShooter. It creates cool little sigs, like the one I have, that are a nice size for forums.

Check it out!

You don't need to do that, so please don't, I like your pics too

We're just trying to cut down on large sigs, like mine, which will be changed as soon as I have time.

Like Greg said, they have tons of bandwith. They are just trying to cut down on the annoyingly large sigs. They're just that, annoying. Of course Greg said it in a nice way.

This is about the impracticality and impact on readability that large sigs have one threads, not bandwidth.
