It looks like one of the brew scientists got on Reddit for an AMA (Ask Me Anything). I read nearly the whole thing while sipping on the best IPA ever! As a huge beer fan, I found the whole thread informative and entertaining.

Niiice. I love it when it's guys just answering questions and not actors just promoting their new movie.

Over time St Louis has become more and more of a beer town (aside from AB). Some of the Busch family have opened their own breweries while others in the region have slowly become recognized for quality.

Still, the shelves at supermarkets and gas stations here are strongly dominated by Anheuser-Busch. Hard to hold it against them since they generous sponsor local charities, sporting events, public parks, hospitals, and public and private schools. When disasters happen, they're the first to distribute free water and supplies, usually ahead of the Red Cross and Salvation Army. So, while I'm not an A-B drinker (except at baseball games), I am a huge A-B supporter.

On another note:
WHY IS THE REDDIT FORMAT SO AWFUL?

Man, I could go all aspergers on that guy and chat with him for hours without getting bored. I might even bring a notebook and pen.

Christ I love ipa. I don't brew and it's a bastard to find many of them in TN. I'm gonna send that recipe to a friend of mine.

Can you get Dogfish head in your area? They don't sell in KS, but make some pretty good IPAs and imperial stouts.

Maybe we can come up with some trades. You ship some beers from TN I can't get here in KS and I ship you some home brews?

Great read. I'm still kind of going through it (reddit's nested/threaded comment system is a visual mess, dunno why they've never improved it). Neat stuff. I almost feel like I love the art/science of making beer more than I love drinking it...

Because they don't have their Demon series posted. However, I am trying to clone it and have yet to bottle it!

It stopped at 14.7% I added a little amylase and some champagne yeast to see if I could get any simple sugars eaten, and nothing happend. I really wanted it to drop a few more points to "dry" it a bit more.

And the stout I brewed for you, was their Czar recipe, but I forgot the black malt, added 6oz chocolate and 1lb of lactose...pretty sure that batch is never gonna taste good. I think it'll make delicious marinade though.

Bastards! Too bad on the stout, but at least it won't go to waste.

Ya, oh well, it's learning.

Good news is, FedEx finally came 30min ago (delayed multiple days due to Boston). Just got some yeast, including pacman yeast used by Rogue. I haven't seen any place that sells it for over a year. I'll try brewing up a Shakespeare stout or double chocolate with that yeast. It's supposed to be pretty strong yeast, so maybe I'll get ambitious and try to make a similar stout to Bourbon County by Goose Island this summer.

I'm working on four different recipes for the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse I want to brew this summer too. Should be great year for beer.

That's a difficult read, not the content/length, but due to Reddit's format.

My 2 current favorites are
Rogue Dead Guy and Sam Adams Imperial White, not so much a fan of stouts.

Torry introduced it to me when I was in his neighborhood. It tastes like what you imagine the great plains/midwest might taste like if you took the state of Minnesota and bit off a chunk of it -- grassy, wheaty, and hearty. Unfortunately, their distribution doesn't go far enough south for me to enjoy. Next time I'm up there I'm renting a minivan and bringing home a six-month supply.

What sucks is that in TN they can't sell anything with an abv over 6% except inba liquor store. It's few and far to find a liquor store with any high grav beers much less a big selection. There's one in town here I can get my Harpoon Leviathan fix though.

Some dogfish head pops up around here but it's usually at a bar.

Ohio recently changed the law here regarding Alcohol Content, we used to have to travel to KY to get the better AC beers.

This has become one of my new favorites.

Any recommendations on a good doppelbock?

I haven't had one in ages. I pick up a pack of Devastator whenever I'm in Utah but I'd like something with a little cleaner maltiness alongside the bite.
Ironically not being restricted to liquor stores for beer means it's HARDER to find decent stuff as the grocery stores just stock trash like Miller Lite, and half the time only in cans.

Worse, they're a bunch of basement-dwelling beta males who make up do-gooder stories to gain what they refer to as "upvotes."

I understood everything up until this part. Full discloser, I think I've been on reddit 3 times in my life, one of them was reading that AMA I saw posted over at Homebrewtalk.com. And since we're disclosing everything, I am also 5 beers deep, burning things in my back yard, blasting Aphex Twin, and I'm gonna go mow. My neighbor is smacking his muddy shoes against each other.

And posts like that are why you MUST be careful with home brew folks, LOL!
