OK I have done many post about trying to fix my car that I am sure some of you have seen many times. Here's the new in a nut shell. I took it to a mechanic he told me one of my injectors is out along with my knock sensor, so I replaced the injector and the knock sensor. Stated it up... and it ran BEAUTIFUL.

3 DAYS LATER...

the damn thing is bogging again and I can smell fuel . does this mean my knock sensor and injector crapped out on me again?

I have not been able to even try to figure out the problem because as you can see it is 3 am, im tired, and I do not have a garage or any source of light. I guess tomorrow I will go to the knock sensor first because of the duck tap that was left on it maybe that could have caused damage DAMNIT!

Too bad. Sorry for your troubles bro. It happens to me, two mechanic told me to buy the spare and auto body parts I need, but its no use. Two more highly likely reasons are the EGR valve being stuck open, or the O2 sensor being at fault.

You could also have a faulty ECT (Engine Coolant Temp) sensor or a faulty MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor, or a hole or leak in the exhaust which is confusing the O2 sensor into switching low to increase the fueling.

Either way, over fueling is BAD because it wrecks the catalytic converter and I would advise you not to drive the vehicle until it has been repaired.

Yeah thanks man. ok I will check the ect and the egr valve"not that i know how or where the ect sensor is" also good call on the whole in the exhaust. I scraped VERY bad on a train track"yes a train track". About a week later my car started bogging like a suby. like I said though my car ran for three days after replacing the knock sensor and injector so, wouldn't that cancel out the whole in the exhaust. As for the map the 240sx runs a mafs and that couldn't be it because I just replaced it.

very useful information thanks for the help Hopefully I can fix my car today.

you could try getting all info together, to know what u checked and stuff, my bogging issue was a fuel pump and filter, u gotta post all info together since this issue isnt point&click, get it all together ull get support

DAMNIT ok im sure this is some good info the SON OF A ***** WONT START! it just sits there going chachachachachachachacha if you read the chas HA thats about the time I had the key turned over and towards the end it started kinda bogging along with it ha:wtf ???????

oK its a ka24de just intake filter, exhaust and after pully. Like I said I just replaced the knock and injector. It ran fine for two days. Then on the third day I noticed a similar sound to what it was doing before I did the replacing" thats when I almost set cruise control to 100mph and jumped out the hatch" as I was getting on the highway. So I went home posted on here then went to bed. NOW... the damn thing wont start??????????

Fuel pump and filter? Was your car acting in any similarity of mine? I guess this could still mean its the o2,"not sure if the o2 causes the car not to start" ECTS, or the egr valve stuck open. I am going to do some research on this stuff then go out there to see what I can do. Ill let you all no what i find out or do.

Also thought I should mention that of those two days of it running. Sometimes when I would start the car the rpms would drop to around 400 to500 revs then go up to the normal 800 rpms an run fine until now of course.

sounds similar to a bad pump, but in not an expert...are you still on the stock fuel pump? it would make since that if you don't have any fuel getting to the motor, that it wont turn over. Try checking the fuel line to see if you're getting pressure.

Yeah im on the stock fuel pump. How do I check the fuel line for pressure?

Well I just checked the fuel pump replacement forum and I didn't even no that it was in the hatch. About twice I noticed that there was some type of liquid leaking from the right back side. One day i was pumping gas and and it started to do it so I smelt it, nothing like fuel to me, I even tasted it"yup I tasted it" I just checked it out but I didn't see where any thing could leak from maybe the fuel pump are somewhere I am about to pop off the lil cover and check things out around there. Ill let you no whats up.

you got to get a meter for that (dont know the name XD) wait for more info

and well my car WOULD start but bog a lot driving random bogs cuts etc..

But we are getting somewhere i think, Have you tested your spark? grab the coil-->distribuitor cable and put it NEAR a grounded bare metal on the car, try to start and check for spark, could be spark, could be ur not getting fuel, no spark, go to basics that would be for the starting issue

the bogging and total cutoff can be the spark also (i was getting that problem recently) but before i had random cuts, bogging etc. that was the fuel pump

**** this may be another situation or it may be linked. I am leaking something from the engine some where I am assuming it is oil. I checked the spark and if I did it correctly I am not getting any spark. what does this mean replace coil pack or dizzy?

Just to make sure I did this correct, this is what I did. I unplugged the plug that connects to the coil pack and put it near the head"valve cover".

When I put this up to a "ground I suppose it was" I felt a slight shock through my arm ha... im sure that means im getting spark even no I never visually saw a spark... right?

that sounds bad....

Ok just to make sure, u grab the cable that goes from the coil to the center of the distribuitor (not the ones that go to the spark plugs) and put it like hmm 1 mm or 2 mm away from one of the strut tower bolts, or something u know is grounded and bare naked, u have to get a STRONG spark, i mean if one of those shocks would even touch u ur arm would be numb, its a high voltage shock.... wont kill ya but it will hurt a **** lot

so dont join the cable and the ground, just leave a slight space to see the spark, it must be strong and blue i think and intermitent while the engine is trying to start, if ur getting a light small crappy spark (it hit u and u didnt even feel it? heck it sucks :P), thats one of ur problems.

from that point dont know what u can do, but check all the wiring from the coil to the fuse box etc.... ALL of it, i had some burnt cables and naked ones and ****, that made me NOT have spark, and thus no engine running

btw i mean the cable that comes from the coil to the distribuitor :P i hope u know which one i mean :P and lift the car, check where that oil is comming from, i had a problem like that but it was a Power steering hose broken, it only squirted when i steered full lock, only then, check that oil out thats gonna be a problem soon

Yeah when I did this I saw a tiny spark so I went ahead and replaced it(the ignition coil) still wont start same old noise chachachacha. I am guessing it has to be a fuel problem? Would the EGRV, ECTS or 02 sensor in any way cause the starting problem?

hell i dont think u understood, there are 2 facts in your story...:

1. Tiny spark... that isnt good2. the most important one, u got hit by the spark and didnt went insane.... That thing hits VERY HARD, arm goes numb a really stinging pain, is very strong, its also a fat spark blue and all, i bet u aint getting enough spark, maybe watch some videos of the spark maybe ull know if urs weak,

If i were you try meassuring the volt going to the coil from the harness, should be Clean 12.0 around that, if not then ur wiring is bad, and also use a Known working coil. After u confirm with someone that ur spark is Sane and Strong and doesnt misses, and still wont start, go the the fuel,

The spark system is cheaper......

I dont think the o2 can keep a car from starting, When starting ur just pumping fuel, air and spark, its just that it has to start, after that the o2 sensor will give u issues, but not starting i doubt it

Yeah but like i said I replaced the ignition coil with a brand new one so I must be getting spark. Maybe the fuel pump is out? only thing I can think of.

Just a note I was messin with my car and semlt fuel very badly from INSIDE the car. I tried taking the fuel pump out but couldn't finish a screw got striped and I must leave some where right now so, but what could this mean if I smell fuel ma8inly in the car?

uhhh.

Right now I am checking the fuel filter. I have herd of some fuel filters being extremely dirty causing the car not to start so maybe this could be it. Also like I said I scraped on a train track, I am thinking maybe my catalytic converter is bent up pretty bad causing my car to run like ****, then finally cause it not to start.

After I check the fuel filter I will take a look under the car to see how things are looking under there.

any one home?

eliminate the spark issue first by replacing cap and rotor on the distributor if you haven't already and some new plugs if you had an injector dumping fuel prior your plugs are probably pretty cruddy....when you are checking for good spark remove the fuel pump fuse so you are not flooding your engine. And get a cheap spark plug to test for spark instead of electrocuting yourselves

so I don't get it im sorry I am getting spark but I still need to replace my cap and rotor? My distributor cap is a lil loose thats all, didn't bother replacing it because other than that it seems fine.

the contacts are most likely coroded if you haven't changed them in a while...if your cap is loose you are gonna have spark issues your rotor should be replaced when your cap is same with your plugs eliminateing weak spark by replacing $30 worth of crap instead of the coil would have been wiser but you got a new coil that can't perform correctly when it is mated to worn components. replacing them will eliminate spark as the culprit and take you to your next diagnosis...or fix the issue at hand

well since its about 15 years old its pretty good that I replaced the coil any way. I am going to go ahead and replace plugs, rotor, and cap tomorrow. Hope fully she starts up. Another thing I have tried to start my car a total of about six times, this wouldn't be enough to flood my motor would it?

Yup pull the plugs so the gas can evaporate over night good luck...keep your other coil as a back up

well I have now replaced the ignition coil, distributor cap, distributor rotor, spark plug wires, and the fuel filter. My car still does not want to start . I am sure that by now I have to be getting spark. Also I did the starter fluid thing a couple days ago to see if it would start for a couple seconds, and it still didn't start. Ok so... correct me if I am wrong but since it didn't start when I did the starter fluid thing then doesn't that mean that im getting fuel as well. . Any ideas? should I replace spark plugs also????

plugs are a must. Do you hear your fuel pump buzz when you turn the key after it sat a bit? You should. If you aren't geting even a little bit of a start from the starter fluid you got a spark issue. Do not use to much of that shi* its not good for your engine. check all of your connections to your coil as well you might have forgot something or left one loose. I am assuming that you took eack wire off one at a time and replaced them as you went...so you wouldn't mess up the firing order.

Well Ill replace the plugs as well tomorrow. Yes I can here the pump buzz for about 2 secs. No I did not replace them that way, but I am positive that I have all the plugs in the right order.

What does it mean If I have no spark from the spark plug wires? Me and my bro were double checking for spark with the lights out in my new garage .

I have done and replaced every thing there is for spark but I am still not getting it from the plug wires. I am sure that my ecu took a crap on me this has to be it. Does any one think different?

speaking of which, have you tried pulling the ecu for codes? I dont know if you know, but its actually quite simple. you remove the Passenger side kick panel, and unbolt the ecu from the wall. Then its just a matter of turning a bolt with a flathead and reading the code it throws.
