Alright, I just got a 1992 240 SX, KA24 DE, and it has a HS exhaust installed, with ceramic headers, and a 3 inch muffler. Unorthodox pulleys, and (supposedly) a rebuilt block. It does not have an air intake, or anything else from what I can tell.

Most of the time, there is no problem. However, when the car gets warm, and I shift my gear to accelerate, the RPM goes up, but its like its not taking the gear. I slowly SLOWLY accelerate, or if I let off the gas for a few seconds and slowly press on it, I will accelerate.

Could this be caused by not getting enough air? Or, does anyone know what the issue could be?

Also, I looked into getting an air intake, but the 240 has 4 hoses from the intake line to elsewhere, and also on the box has a line for the AIV....Some people take that line off completely, and some custom a port for it. What exactly does that do (AIV), and how will taking it off affect the car? Also, is there anywhere I can get the airflow regulator aftermarket, or should I just fabricate the factory into the intake?

Yeah, I don't know too much about cars, but I am learning lol. Thanks for the help.

Is it a manual if so then maybe you have a bad clutch, or its fixing to go out. And if its a auto then DO NOT shift it like a manual.

its a 5 speed, ka24DE.....only happens when the car gets warm, after it has been running for a while...such as if I go to town and sit at mcdonalds drive through....when I pull out is usually when it starts happening.

This is a strange problem for a manual shift. Check to make sure your timing is correct. It sounds to me that the car is operating good in open loop, when the car is cold. As the car warms up and goes into closed loop the problem starts. I believe it to be electronic. Make sure all your connections are good on the ignition system, from the coil to the plugs. Make sure your plugs and coil is in good operating condition. I would say your clutch is fine, go with the electronics first, don't forget the mass air flow sensor as well. If your able pull any codes from your ecu to verify all sensors that engine performance are up to par. Happy hunting.
