After several months hiatus from owning a V (nice not having a car payment for a while), I will soon be ordering a new one.

My wife and I discussed it and with how poorly the Lego fits our car seat (high end Britax), and the lack of side impact beams, we'd feel better off with a V.

See sig for details on what I'm going to order.

Hope the SL with 6spd is easier to find for 08 for your sanity's sake.

Congrats EV!

Is there a particular dealer you're going with? Are you going to have it built to spec or are you going for what's in their inventory? What are you waiting for?

The all-around 5-star crash rating is a good selling point. I was talking with a friend who's in the market and I convinced her to look at the Versa sedan, along with her other choices, Sonata, Fusion, Aura, because the Versa has as much interior room, better fuel economy, and a 5-star rating (which was one of her top criteria.)

Gonna go through Campbell Nelson to get my Costco discount.

And I'm going to avoid the whole supply problem thing by having it special ordered.

This is a common misunderstanding. While IIHS has given the Versa "Good" all around, NHTSA gave the Versa four (4) stars, not five, for the frontal. See here:

http://www.safercar.gov/Index2...del2=

This does not mean, of course, that the Versa is not safe. It only shows that different testing environments yield different results.

I'm a victim of others being loose with the facts. The side impact rating is 5 but frontal is only 4. So technically, it did receive a 5 star rating but that wasn't for all impact locations. Well, there are lies, bold face lies, and statistics. I should have questioned it as soon as I heard it. Thanks for the clarification.

So I went to the dealership today to find out how long it might take, and they said they won't be getting '08's in until September. I'll go back in a month and place my order.

I told them what I wanted... very exactly, and they looked in the computer to see of any '07's matched (futile, it's an impossible combination in '07). He came back and said "Hey, we found your car in Montana. It's $17,200".

To which I replied "I said 6-speed, not CVT". "Huh?"

(Apparently the distinction between the two was lost on him until I explained to him... three more times... that I would not be buying a CVT.)

It never ceases to amaze me that we who are regulars on this forum, know more about the Versas than the dealers.

It was amusing being right about everything and watching him flub up a bit.

Thats too funny and true about us knowing more than our dealers about the V!!!!

When I went to buy mine (and every time since then) the dealer tries to "Stump" me with V info and i beat him everytime!

BTW....When i went in to look at the car the sales manager offered me a job (selling only V's) cuz i knew more about the car, and competition cars then any one in their dealership!

I guess its all about sales and that is what they care about soemtimes

Quote »It never ceases to amaze me that we who are regulars on this forum, know more about the Versas than the dealers.[/quote]That's not unusual. People who are buying a new car read reviews, read specs, online info, brochures so they end up knowing quite a bit about a particular car.

The dealer sales staff has to try to know an entire line, often a couple different brands entirely which would end up being maybe a few dozen vehicles combined with trim levels being hundreds of combinations.

Now separate cars from trucks from SUVs, vans, fleet options, sedans-hatchbacks, crossovers, twodoor-fourdoor, each one having 2-3 trim levels or more, options for each trim level group with corresponding powertrains available for these levels and options. Add colors, interiors, finacing options for each, incentives for each, it's a dizzying number of information one would have to memorize.
