now my dad is a mechanic and he's been doing it for over 30 years. he's done many different engine swaps for maintenance purposes, not performance. He's never seen an SR before, never done a front mount intercooler, and i'm afraid he could mess up the wiring. now, i plan to buy an SR which includes everything except the intercooler. i plan to get a front mount intercooler, walbro fuel pump, and a downpipe. i got a 93 240sx coupe. My questions is, are there any other details that a mechanic of over 30 years won't know how to do when installing the SR?

the front mount intercooler just takes some thinking about piping and mounting. the fmic install you could and should do on your own. as for the wiring. not saying you dad couldnt figure it out, but i would feel more comfortable taking it to some one who has wired and sr into a chassis before. its not diffucult but there is the potential for frying some stuff if not done right. also, there are many resources and wiring guides available to help in installing the engine and getting it wired up properly. good luck!

so there are a lot of technicalities with the wiring harness? damn. see, if i bring it to my pops, its gonna cost me 3,775 including the motor, fuel pump, intercooler, and downpipe. if i bring it to this place i know, its gonna cost 4,000 just to do the swap without intercooler, downpipe, and fuel pump costs added in. i dunno wat to do. i can't do it myself cuz i don't know how, im only 18.

The SR swap is a piece of cake for most anybody. If you're dad has been a mechanic for 30 years he should be able to do it in a weekend. All the info needed is widely available on the internet and easily understandable.

If he's a mechanic of any merit, all he might have trouble with is the wiring and once he see's this he should be cake: http://www.frsport.com/SR20DET....html

Because of the popularity of swapping in the SR20DET there are tons of resources online that can be helpful in answering your swap questions and troubles.

This is basically a complete guide for the DIYer, includes wiring guide as well.

Everything is pretty straightforward.
