An interesting VLSD question

well i am looking into the whole lsd thing and i have stumbled across an s14 vlsd. the thing is that it is not in a pumpkin. its just the straight diff. comes with two metal rings. i did search but nothing could really directly answer the question of whether or not this can just drop into the pumpkin on my stock s13 open diff. if so, what else is needed? if not, should i keep on the hunt for the one that comes with the whole pumpkin? would it be more cost effective that way?

Some more info, since it doesnt come in the pumpkin, then i cant swap the rear covers cuz it doesnt come with em. also, i guess a better question would be if i can just switch out the insides of the open diff and put the vlsd in it? and the other question is if i can use the same output axles?

You can swap internals of the diffs. But you will need output shafts from a vlsd.

and from what i researched, it is cheaper to get em at the junk yard than from the dealership right? would you happen to know how much they are from the dealership tho?

They are like $125 each IIRC. Junk yard should be way cheaper. Even keep a watch on eBay for them.
