Very interesting link...I use their motor oil, filters, gear lube. I like Mobil 1 products, but you may want to check this out. These are scientific tests, not random "opinions", conjecture, etc. I like hard facts.

No, I am not an Amsoil dealer. I order direct from them.

are you really going to put alot of stock in the tests, done by the manufactor of their own product? not very objective if you ask me.While i think amsoil makes a decent product, their own marketing system leaves me cold to their products

AMSOIL is a very good oil but Redline also has test with it vs AMSOIL and it wins those...

SOme of the AMSOIL tests have been accused of not being representative of real conditons.

Also it goes with selection of viscosities'.For example if memory serves their 4 ball wear test is run at 40C (approx 100F) but motor oil temps in a running engine are typically around 100C(212F)You an always pick and choose parameters if you do the publishing.AMSOIL is one of the better syn oils out there but it doesnt walk all over other POA oils like MAOBIL1, Redline (actually group V), German Castrol (only in 0w-30 which is PAO also).

I dont know why, but since switching to Castrol Syntec 5w40 from Mobil 1 5w40 there's less funny sounds starting my Q after leaving it sitting for a few days. You know, that sounds like something's crackling that goes away after a few seconds.

I wasnt aware Syntec had a 5w-40 out I thought they were a 10w-40?

Also there is no MOBIL1 5w-40 (yet,... new "SUV" 5w-40 to come soon)

Except for the new 0w-30 that says "Made in Germany" and ACEA A3 on back, I am not a big fan of syntec.
