Here we go again with the dino vs synthetic..

I do believe that synthetic oil does reduce wearand extend engine life over and above dino oil.....Ido believe that the "true" 15k mile synthetic oil, though it is the best, is not good for a catalyticconverter over time....I do believe that the bestof both worlds is the "semi-true" synthetic ofRoyal Purple, that should be changed every 7500miles for optimum performance and does not harmcatalytic converters. This also keeps your warrantyin tact. (and Royal Purple costs no more than Mobil 1)

That said, if Mobil 1 and all the others were changed at the proper intervals, the difference inwear and longevity ratings between them and thetrue and semi-true synthetics would be minimal...

....(IMHO....) to each his own.....

While the topic of synthetic, I was wondering if I could get some guidance on recommended Mobil 1 change intervals.

I have been using Mobil 1 since my last change 3,200 miles ago. When would you suggest I change the oil? I was thinking at the 5,000 mark to stay within the warranty guidelines. I drive about 30% City / 70% Hwy.

Thanks for your assistance.

my opinion again.....I think you are really in the ballpark consideringthe ratio of highway to city driving. Mobil 1 says 7500mi interval, but I really think that is in a really clean environment and highway miles.Your 5000 sounds good to me....As anal as I am, I would never go over the 5k miles no matter what....I'musually between 3500 to 5000 when I change even with Royal Purple, butthat's just me....I said I'm a tad anal....

I swear by Castrol. I had a BAD sludge problem in a 95' S-10. I switched to Castrol GTX and within 2 oil changes i had 0% sludge.

I have used Castrol Syntec in all my High Performance ATV's, and i plan on using it faithfully in the Rogue.

I changed my Rogue over to Amsoil 5W-30 at 1200 miles. I have been using Amsoil since 1992 with no problems. I will usually go 5000 miles between oil changes, but will probably stick with Nissan's recommended change interval until the warranty is up. Everyone one has an opinion on synthetic and I have mine. I am happy with my decision to use it.

Except if you use the XL line of oil from Amsoil, your warranty is void anyway as the ASL Amsoil oil is not API certified (No starbust on the bottle).

So, at least, use it up to what it can do, meaning extended oil interval, which is one year or 15000/25000 miles, whichever comes first.

Using it for 5000 miles is a waste of money, IMHO, every API SM certified conventional oils can do that.
