has anyone used the ams basic rebuild kit for the ka24de? if so what are your thoughts on it? are the parts good? i know arias pistons are quality but what about the ams sportsmen rods that come in the kit? me and my dad are building a ka-t for our drift coupe and are shooting for 450whp. would this kit be suitable for us?

I've used their kits and have been very happy with them.

My best guess is that you could call them and they will tell you exactly what you need to be able to hit those HP goals.

I personally have their Sportsman Rods, and I got my Arias pistons from them too. No problems as of yet. Running 12's.

That's a serious boatload of power...you might want to look into a different or custom manifold, as that's right around the supposed edge of the JGS kit.

Your best bet is to start calling up these companies, both AMS and JGS have awesome customer service.

The T3/TO4E with the .63 AR exhaust housing makes right around 420whp at 20 psi. 450 will be right at it's max flow. But if you use a bigger turbo, you'll have to accept more lag.

Oh yeah anywhere in the 400's should be good for you. If your thinking of drift only and your concerned about spool time you might want to think of a ball bearing turbo. Anything from the gt287x on up would be good for your power goals. Only problem is there so pricey.

I've been into AMS many of times when i started building my KA and i've seen a lot of happy costumers there who have the sportsman rods so i say GOOD choice... i would have them to but they were on serious backorder as of like 4 months ago...

They are very reputable and they offer high quality aftermarket and in house parts for the ka. Using AMS is a no brainer if you like getting what you pay for.

Make sure to give them the lower timing chain cover so when they cut the deck they can bolt the cover on and cut it all together so you don't have misalignment issues. Same goes for the head when you deck it also.

Except sometimes you pay a bit too much with them for what you get but thats just my opinion.

Although their rebuilt kits are actually pretty competitively priced so thats a plus. Especially if they still come with what they used to sell them with.

If you add up all the parts in the rebuild kit, separately, it's cheaper... I asked them why, and they didn't have an answer.. lol

Its AMS dude, they have a stupid markup on everything simply because they can. That is pretty funny that you can piece together that kit for cheaper than they offer it though.. You would think they would knock 100 bucks off at least but, w/e.

I dont really think their rods are anything special they look really generic and simple. Im sure they are a lot better than stock but just about anything aftermarket is. I would rather go with that Ebay dude who was selling forged rods(looked exactly the same as the sportsmens) for 100-150 bucks cheaper.

Although they do have the best shift knobs ever at a really fair price... Seriously, you might laugh at this, but if you bought one its gona be the best 25 bucks shipped(IIRC) you'v ever spent on your car.

I had to get rid of the NISMO one that came with my car. Whoever designed that thing needs a swift kick to the crotch.

AMS has been known lately to do shady deals, like taking peoples money and not ever giving them parts. The fact that they are actually charging you MORE money then the pieces cost by themselves mean they are a shady business AT BEST.

Boycott them from this point on IMO. Over priced bad service should not be rewarded with business. They haven't even paid Greg for their overdue sponsorship fee's IIRC.

They're a very weird, hit or miss place. When I dealt with Ivan everything was 100% to my satisifaction. I recieved quick replies to my few phone calls/e-mails about a problem I had, and a 'free' t-shirt as a thanks/sorry type thing.

The guy Chris@AMS was on NICO a lot for a while, and he kind of dissapeared as well.

They're very into the EVO business now I guess, and those guys have more money then 240 guys typically...I assume they're moving out the 240 side soon. Too many players in a market without enough money IMO.

Go to autozone for felpro gasket kit and for timing chain kit use the osk from frsport which is only about $150 from frsport. they are same quality as oem made from japan. i'm having my motor done with the osk kit, would save you some money. You should look around, each shop sells their stuff for little different and you can always ask for lower price(it wont hurt). i like to bargain w/shops and most of the time it turns out good.

Wow I didn't know things had changed. I haven't purchased any parts from them in about a year now that I think about it, but I guess they don't care about the 240 community as much since they're into evo's and crap now.

For sure dude. I organized a group buy on the .Org with 10 other guys for AMS's sick bottom mount manifold that they D/Ced after ONE production run. We gave them a 350 dollar deposit each for a 1000 dollar manifold. Some guys put more, but everyone at least paid 350 so they would make us the manifolds.

6 months later, we have received count them.. THREE... updates from Chris at AMS on the group buy thread. Each of the updates says the same thing.

Heres one..

Quote »I'm sorry for the delay guys... It seems that we can never find anybody who can actually supply us with the parts we need in a reasonable amount of time...

Once we get the parts we will burn through them ASAP...
-Chris

They cant get.. STEEL? What the fvk, i can get enough steel tube shipped to my door to sink a boat in less than two weeks. Burn through them?!?! Thats really what i want to hear about the production of a 1000 dollar manifold.

Heres the next one, that one was the first.

Quote »Sorry for the lack of updates. We don't really have anyone that sits on the web all day for the 240 forums at the moment........ As I understand it, the materials were ordered but took and extremely long time to get here because, in short, our supplier sucks, haha.
That was june third. It would seem that by chris's post that he had the materials and we were going to get our manifolds made soon. Im not even going to go into how this last message pissed me off.

Now its almost the end of July, still no update, and no manifolds. AMS had our money since February first.

Too many players in a small market. I'm sorry to say this, but the KA-T is a small fraction of a tiny 240SX group. Between all the manufactuers of these parts, I guess it's not worth it for custom stuff.
