Right now I have a large Sony Amp and heavy dual 10" sub box in my trunk. I'm about to start autocrossing, and I'm trying to figure out a way to make a quick disconnect for the amp power.

The idea being, I'll mount the amp onto the sub box, and then I could just disconnect the power and the RCA's and just pull it out for a race.

I've tried everywhere... stereo store, Pep Boys, hardware store... trying to find a decent connector for 8 gauge wire that is insulated (so the hot wire doesn't flop around and spark).

I considered two fuse blocks, one for hot and one for ground, but that's expensive and clumsy, I think.

Any ideas ?

Worst case, I'll leave the amp in and just pull the sub box but I'd prefer to pull both.

Thanks

Look at something along the lines of what is used in racing for a quick change battery. It still might be pricey, but it should give you what you're looking for with out using dual distribution blocks.

Something like this

Wow, what a great idea ! I might just order a pair.

Or, I might just do the box but I kinda wanted to put the amp on the box anyway to get it off the floor of my trunk.
