I have a Rockford Fosgate 400S amp, I have no idea what happened to it, I took the car out of the garage and not even 5 minutes later the amp shut down. So I though it just over heated and went into protection mode (I had the window down and no A/C), So i turned off the radio and folded down the back seat (the amp is right behind the seat). So I came back to the car about 15 min later and it still didnt work. So I checked the fuse, it was good, So I checked the voltage at the amp with the car off, 12.48, so i checked the subs, 4.08 ohms (4 ohm set up). I dunno what happened, Did it go into a permanent protection mode???? Should I send it back to RF??? What should i do????

how did you come to own the amp? did you buy it from a local dealer or online? or from a private seller? how long have you used it? and did you call to see if it's still covered under warranty? did you check all of the grounds for the complete stereo system? I just bought it in Feb or Mar of this year, right before Spring Break from Best Buy.

I'd call the support line. That number should be current. Years ago, RF was quite helpful when i had a problem.

you could also have a short in the wiring somewhere. the thermal protection wont go on unless it overheats, and only then does it stay in protection until it cools off. so most likely it is the short protection circuit. I would check that ground and power wire to make sure that your connections are solid, as well as making sure that all of your wires are cleanly cut and secured well.

I called RF and they told me it was most likely blown and to send it back for replacement. :)
