And the confusion continues. The '90 is NOT covered.

SERVICE INFORMATION

This Bulletin contains radio identification information on all Infiniti models through the 1992 model year. Use this Bulletin to identify the component manufacturer and model number when ordering an exchange unit under the Direct Dealer Manufacturer Radio Warranty Exchange Program.

Infiniti audio components are supplied by four audio manufacturers. When ordering an exchange unit, it is important to properly identify the manufacturer and model number of the incident unit. This will ensure that the exchange unit shipped from the radio manufacturer is the same brand and model as the incident unit.

ALL RADIO CORES SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE MANUFACTURER IMMEDIATELY AFTER REMOVAL FROM THE CUSTOMER'S VEHICLE.

Comment: The table probably has a screwy layout.

I sent all four of my 1990 units in their enclosures to Bose for $75 each and they returned them rebuilt promptly and covered the return shipping. So it was a total of $300 for all four.

Im intrigued. So if the 1990 isnt covered, are they less prone to failure? If I fish around for used amps, should I keep the 1990 Q in mind?

The '90s were a different design. That said, I kind of doubt they would work right with your head unit or harness connectors.

Did some web research today:- http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/DIY/bose_rr.htm- http://www.willmanselectronics.com/infiniti.htm- http://www.carstereohelp.com/repairDoIt ... epair.htm- http://www.simplyspeakers.com/2doityourself.htm- http://www.carstereohelp.com/infiniti.htm

o NSXPrime is for Hondas, but they discuss Infiniti Bose repairs & Bose failure modes.o Williams Electronics has a short Infiniti page on Bose speaker R&R&R (remove & repair & replace).o So does the Factory Car Stereo Repair site.o Simply speakers has do-it-yourself speaker-repair kits for the common problems (e.g., for 26.95 they sell the foam-repair kit shown in the picture below for Infiniti Bose 6x9 inch speakers).

Note that both the NSXprime & BoseRepair.com sites also discuss the $75 Bose factory refurbish.

For example, NSXPrime states:(begin quote)Failure:All Bose amps will eventually fail due to inability to dissipate heat. The louder you listen to the stereo the faster they will fail, it is a function of a square (twice as loud = 4x rate of failure).

Infiniti has a long standing replacement policy on their Bose amps, because they are mounted on top of the gasoline tank. They fry or get too hot and they will replace them for you. No other car maker will do this outside of the warranty.

Option I – Third Party ReplacementFor about $250 you can get replacement amps (not made by Bose) from Amp Options (e-mail at: [email protected] or call between 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM EST at 770.638.0359) Has better warranty than Bose, might be better made.

Option II – Have Bose Fix them for you!Pay Bose. They have tuned each amp to fit the car and its enclosure. For the original stock sound it is better to have the amps rebuilt than to replace them with different part numbers, but the fix may not last very long. Send the entire enclosure (along with a $75 money order) back to them to get them rebuilt. BOSE 800.231.2673.

Bose Corporation125 Fisher StreetAttn: John Villa - OEM QAWestboro, MA 01581

Success is mixed from the people who use the repair option. Many have had the amp fail within months of the repair operation. The only components replaced are those that have currently failed. Components that have not yet failed (or about to fail) are not replaced, possibly sending you back a tired amp.

Option III – Repair them yourselfThose style of amps are used in just about every type of Bose install for the past 15 or years. So any used car can be robbed of parts.(end quote)

I was able to get the rebuilds done for free on my 90.

They essentially sent back new speakers and amps enclosed in my old housing.

I managed to get through to a particular person and started talking about my brand loyalty to Bose. I have one of their home systems and another bedroom radio..

That said...it didn't seem that was the deciding factor. All he said on the phone was I will see what I can do. Then he gave me a specific return number.... I sent all the old ones back and kept my fingers crossed.

They came back less than two weeks later, postage paid and no charge.

I think it was just a certain amount of luck and Bose goodwill.
