Hey guys I just got done doing my subwoofer install. I powered everything up and the amp came on perfectly. No protection mode or anything. I the proceeded to turn on some music. The subwoofer didn't play loud at all. There is a little vibration coming out of the sub but nothing really. The amp is a JBL GTO 1201.1 and the sub is a TC-1000 12".

There are some little knobs on my hi/lo converter that i'm not too sure what to do with. Also i'm not too sure how to adjust my amp.

Is there like some mode on the bose stereo to allow a sub or something?

Thanks,Elliott

I'm guessing the gain is turned all the way down. What you need to do is turn the volume on the radio up to 3/4 full or so. Then, start slowly adjusting the gain up. If the amp has a switch for an LPF (low pass filter), turn it on. Just make sure you set the LPF frequency at least half way up the knob so it wont cut off some of the low frequencies. Once you hear the sub start to distort due to amplifier clipping, turn the gain down a bit. You will probably want all the bass settings on your radio down all the way since your sub will be handling all the bass duties and I'm sure you know that bass + volume in midrange speakers = distortion. Make sure you never turn up the bass settings off the radio or amp after you tune it and you should be fine, assuming that the amplifier has more than enough power to drive the sub.

It would be the input level then. It increases the voltage of the incoming signal to make it louder.

K I did that and still nothing. The sub plays...but it plays really quietly.

still played the same level, no difference? You probably going to have to adjust the potentiometers on the high/low converter.

Nope no difference. Did that on the converter and still nothing.

You probably have a wiring issue on how it was hooked up or something is broken. Might be worthwhile to take it to a shop at this point.

The problem is you don't have enough info up here. My guess is that you tied into the low level outputs coming out of the stereo, which in this case would be the reason you are getting next to nothing. This is a bose system so you have low level coming from the radio/tuner into an amp that is located in the car already.

Where are you tapping the converter into? Also is your sub duel voice coil or single voice coil? What is the ohm rating of the sub, how many ohm stable is the amp when it is bridged? Do you have the amp bridged? Are you using a proper ground?

There are so many possibilities as to what you did wrong, trouble shooting it over the internet is not an easy task. Give some more info and we might be able to help........... Boon

Good call, I completely missed that.
