An old movie, granted. An alcoholic pilot does the impossible and saves nearly everyone on board when his plane loses vertical control and goes into a high speed dive with seemingly no way to recover. But even this unbelievably heroic and astonishing achievement cannot make up for flying a commercial jet intoxicated. He must come to grips that he is an alcoholic and answer for it in the most devastating way.
A great movie with a stellar performance from Denzel Washington. I came across this clip on accident while surfing YouTube. This clip of the crash is among the best examples of special effects and cinematography in recent films. Thought I would share it.

really? looked like shaky cam mixed with some cgi to me. kinda like a michael bay film. the opening scene to "the dark knight rises" was worlds better than that scene. although "flight" had way better boobs.

We use a few memes from this movie at my job these days.

"Engine failure takeoff procedure: we're gonna roll it."
"Passengers up using the lav when they shouldn't be: we're gonna roll it."
"Light turbulence: roll it."
And so on.

It's a good but not great movie. Most of it is just about drugs and alcohol. I am more looking forward to the "Sully" movie that now has previews out about the Miracle on the Hudson. It's weird seeing Tom Hanks in my uniform.

Also, for those of you who'd like to know, the accident cause is based on an actual accident. The jackscrew that moves the horizontal stabilizer stripped completely due to improper maintenance and aircraft control was impossible. They did actually fly upside down for a few moments to maintain some control.
Alaska Flight 261

The most we train for.....can train for is stab-trim runway, when the electric motors driving the stab trim operate when not commanded. Should the jackscrew strip or otherwise fail, we're doomed. But I assure you, I will roll it.

Yeah I remember that movie. I think I watched it twice. I enjoyed it.
I had no idea that happened to Alaska flight 261. I'd think I'd remember that.
