...over 318 miles!!!!!!

I was returning from Cedarville CA to Sacramento CA. Hwy 299 to I5. THe are two mountain ranges on 299 around 6k ft each. Two lane for 150 miles. I5 is 160 miles FLAT.Total miles on trip computer 318average mph 59.1average mpg 27 !!!!!!

39psi in tiresA/C set at 68Synthetic oil

at one point 144 miles (thru the mountians) I was averaging 28.4 mpg average speed of 57.2

I didn't start out planning on mazimizing the MPG. But it was a really nice day and I had some nice CDs playing and I DID NOT WANT TO GET ANY TICKETS!!! so I just settled in. Did just over the posted speed limit when possible.I have driven this trip about 10 times over the last 5 yrs so I know where the nice long 5% grades are and where the tight curves are. That helped with the mileage. There was also very light traffic thru the mountian part so I didn't do alot of passing.I got home just 15 minutes later than usual.

Probably had something to do with your low speed. Not bad at all though...

I go nuts driving that slow. 55 MPH speed limit? I thought we were out of the stone age...

No I didn't drive 55mph.That was the average from the whole trip. Yes, there is a difference. Had I driven at 55 thru the mountians I would not be here to write about this. As I stated, I drove just above the posted limits. I5 is posted at 70mph.

Beleive me, I love to do 90 down the highway, but instead of weaving my way home and passing everything on the road, I simply settled in and enjoyed the music.Growing up in Texas, I too thought that you could do 75 mph on a trip and the AVERAGE MPH would be 75. but alas, it never is. try it sometime. you have to hit 90-95 at some point to make up for starting at 0mph! and that's on flat roads. Do you go 70 mph UP mountian 2 lane roads w/ a 5000 foot drop at the gaurd rail? or barrel down the same road at 70 thru ever single turn?Gas mileage goes to hell in a handbasket going up a mountian road. And that's really what surprised me. Hey, you get great mileage when gravity is pulling 4k lbs down the other side!!!! I got better mileage in the mountian side of the trip 28.4mpg and average 57mph thru them.no one passed me up on the mountian part.....I wasn't out there blocking trqaffic, in fact i passed the few trucks and cars that were not going the posted limits. once I was on I5, yeah, I got passed, but I was in the right lane drafting the semi doing 75.!!!

The weekend of Aug 11th I drove to San Francisco to see my step daughter then to Sacramento on Sunday to visit my folks and back to Frisco Sunday night. Monday it was back to LA and then Tuesday down to SD to have Jerry put in a radiator.

It was 85 to 95 for all of the 1100 miles. The 385 from San Fran back to my house I made in 5 1/2 hours. I even stopped at Harris ranch for lunch and gas. For those who don't know there is a HUGE mountain incline 70 miles north of LA called the Grapevine. I averaged 70 mph.

As far as the road trip goes the Q LOVES freeways. It puts a smile on my face every time I go on a long trip.

Me? Not at all, L.A. to Vegas is mostly a climb going, but it's very up and down through the mountains to the high desert, which is where Vegas is. Around town, I get about 11-13 mpg, sometimes less.

My realistic non-EPA numbers are 11-14 city, 18-21 hwy.

It's a lot more relaxing that way, for sure - Let everyone else fight it out for the passing lane. Even at 65, you don't have to do much passing - just set the cruise, and let everyone go around you.

As for the difference in travel time, it's only significant on trips over several hundred miles. Anything less, and the difference is mere minutes.

007,pull up a map.....cedarville is 5 miles from Nevada/Oregon border, hwy 299 goes over 3 mountian ranges each at 6000 ft plus so half is up and half is down. from Redding CA to Sacramento is bone *** flat!!!!I didn't start at the top of mount Shasta (10,000) and coast home!! lolThat's why I was very clear in where I started and finished. check it out.

And yes, I did some serious drifting on the down side...lol

And yeah man, does the Q love the freeway!!!!

Good point. I had forgotten that the Q's trip computer calculates average speed...I posted that thinking you had just tossed out an "average" speed for the insterstate trip.
