I finally got around to trying to buy a power window regulator from Amayama. The original order had me down for $78.23 for the regulator and $25.79 for shipping. After they reviewed the order, they're now quoting $61.08 for shipping. Also, I got another message that said "*Please note: Import duty and taxes will be applied when the package reaches the destination. If you do not accept paying additional charges when the package is delivered, please do not proceed with the purchase."

I've never purchased stuff internationally except for the occasional small purchase from China on eBay, so this is all new to me.

So for those of you who have shopped with these guys in the past:

  • Is it normal for shipping to be recaluclated for so much more than the original estimate?
  • Have you been asked to pay import duty and taxes after the package arrives? If so, how much are we talking about?

I've used Amayama numerous times for parts for my 90 Q - their shipping charges have always been high but yours is nearly the same as my most recent order of a window regulator and a handful of smaller parts. I would see if there's anything else you're wanting to order from them and include it in the same order to make the best use of their shipping charges.

I look at it this way: I'm grateful that there's still a source for new OEM parts, and for the most part the prices aren't outrageous, even with shipping. An OEM front window regulator for my 2003 BMW M5 is nearly $400, so I don't complain too much about the cost of Nissan parts from Amayama.

I've not had any additional charges on any of my orders beyond the original payment.

Thanks for the advice. I will probably hold off on the order and see what other stuff I can add to an order. The overall price wasn't a concern, but the recalculation to 3x the original shipping quote was a little off-putting.

Heath-
From my experience with Amayama, they ship extremely fast, once your order actually processes. Like 2 days to your door!
The shipping is high, in part because they use expedited air services. and in your particular case, I believe the regulator carries a surcharge, because it exceeds 300mm in one direction.
I think you are smart to order a lot of stuff at once because the shipping for each individual item becomes negligible.
The system is also very "Japanese". A lot of human layers. Amayama is the broker for lack of a better term. You get an agent that handles your order and has a rolling non-real time chat with you. THey coordinate purchases with the OE manufacturers. then they gather and inspect your parts (for accuracy?--you decide), then they ship.

Oh, and I've never paid duty. Even on a $600 order. Maybe because USPS is too lazy to convert yen to $USD? idk, but it's never been an issue.

Amayama is legit. And, yes, shipping cost sucks. You have to realize that they are at the mercy of air delivery services and wildly fluctuating fuel prices. Also, another factor is the dollar/yen exchange. I try not to order anything too heavy from them. That being said, which window regulator do you need? I think I have a spare driver's window regulator. It's for a 94 q45, though.

I'm looking for the passenger rear. Thank you though!
