I have a 95 s14 and I'm wondering if and why I have a pcv valve on my intake tube. Factory tube at that! Had a mechanic try and locate the valve for me, cause I read on here how it's suppose to be so hard to find. So he looks, and says "here it is", and it's plugged into my tube with valve cover hose running from the end of it.

I thought the valve was suppose to be in a box, so what do I do if I get an aftermarket intake. Do they come with a hole that will fit the valve?

Hmm Okay, I just looked b/w the runners on the manifold, and I saw the pipe that had the 4 little hoses that feed off the vac from the manifold. So I see a single long hose runing from the bottom of it, and I follow it with my flash light. The hose ends at a black box. I guess it's black, but it's hard to tell cause dirt and grime covers it. There also looks to be something in the hose that has hex sides (like for a wrech) and seems to go in the box. So I assume it is the valve, but again dirt and grime prevent me from being able to tell.

So anyone know why and what that valve in my tube is for? Is it a factory thing, or do you think some past mechanic couldn't find the valve in the seperator box and just rigged a valve in there.

I found this pic from a aem intake install, but the big hose running from the elbow on the valve cover is the one with the valve on the end that my mechanic found.http://www.240sx.org/links/ins...0.jpg

Has anyone paid to have the "real" valve changed, and know about how much it will cost and how often you gotta replace it? I can already tell it's a pain from the looks of it

i think i know what you are talking about. mine has a T shaped hose connector that has a small straw sized tube that goes across under the stock intake tube to the carbon canister on the driver side. right?

240sx.org has a write-up on it. Go there.

Nah, no t shaped connector. I found the actual last night with a flash light, the one in the box above the alt and all that. But when my car was checked over yesterday, the mechanic overlooked that one, and somehow found one plugged in my intake tube with the valve cover hose coming off the end of it. Probably a cigarette lighter diameter.

Well put it this way, other than the actual pcv valve above the alt in the seperator, are there any others on the car. Cause if the one above the alt is it, I think my someone put the valve in the intake there by accident.

No you're right. You have finally found it, most people can't on their own. It is the one behind the alternator. Mines on the intake manifold (KA24E), that was hard enough to find. Post a pic of the one you found in the intake, because I'm sure that it is, that's right, don't get that confused with isn't or is not, I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be there.

Dang so you mean I really am suppose to have two of them, one contected to the intake manifold, and one in the intake tube? WTF...why. Is anyone else like thta. I don't have a cam on me, but I'll try to get my hands on one for a pic maybe.

So what do I do when I get an intake like injen or aem b/c of this?

Thanks

from my understanding, it's above the alternator and a pain in the *** to change. A friggin $5 part that looks like a simple bolt is unbelievably hard to put in... I might just say F it and pay to have someone put it in for me cuz I'm lazy. If you wanna wait I'll try to post how much it costs me to have it put in

The PCV valve on the KA24DE is behind the alternator. On my KA24E it is on the intake manifold. And I don't think that the one inside the intake tube is PCV valve, it might just look like one, so get me some pics on here.

BTW also on the 240sx.org aem intake install, I found this pic of the guys stock intake pipe. The brass thing sticking out the pipe with the yellow star above it, is what my mechanic that was a pcv valve

Yup, that's what I wa talking about before. Its not a PCV valve because its not from the crankcase, I knew that before, it just looks sort of like it. So did you get to replacing the actual PCV valve yet?

Nah, think Im gonna have someone else do it. Might attempt it later on down the road when I get a lil more experience with my car.

Thanks

The thing in the black box is your PCV valve. The intake pipe running to the valve cover is where the air comes from to displace the crankcase gases. It's done that way so if your PCV valve screws up and the flow reverts, your car doesn't start spewing random junk everywhere under your hood. Sometimes companies put the PCV valve there. For some reason nissan didn't.

Just got the PCV done today at Nissan dealership. Here's what I needed done:

Battery install (not simple because I wanted new terminals, but then if you chop down the cables they wouldn't fit...)Fuel filterPCV valveand they were nice enough to tighten my power steering clamp and try to sucker me into a MAJOR OIL LEAK $875 job. No thx, I'm not MAJORLY leaking oil at all.I can do mine own spark plugs, cap(once it arrives), and rotor..

Anyways, they originally said it'd probably just be $79. I get a call back when they get it in there and they're like "uhhh yeaaa... the PCV valve is actually behind the alternator so it's probably going to be like another $80."me-"well do you really think it needs to be replaced" (lol @ the question)them- "welllll it's pretty olddd"i just wanted to be like, dude you have no idea do you lol. instead i just nike'd his @ss and said just do it.

Dropped off @ 930am. Done @ 330pm.

Total = $167.48

They stole my old battery tho, I gotta go tomorrow and see if I can get it back. What sucks worse is that my hometown woulda had 10% off that price for some labor special.
