Hello everybody. I just joined this site after having bought a 1994 j30 for my daughter because I read on a site called "Informed for Life" that this model was one of the safest statistically. This is a point you can use if you ever decide to sell. Incidently, if you drive a Camaro of this year, you have about 15 times the chance of dying in it as this car.

To my question, after looking over some of the posts, I want to know if it I am reading it right that there are no companies such as monroe that makes suspension components for this car?? Or, is it meant that no one makes upgraded suspension components for this car?

Also, how much should the replacement of the timing belt cost? With my 3000GT, the 60k tuneup which included the timing belt replacement run around $800.00.

Anyway, good to have found this site and, if this j30 works out I might get another for my other daughter who will soon be needing a car.

There is no Aftermarket struts springs shocks at all it all must be oem. Best place to buy it is everythinginfiniti.com. The timing belt will cost at a local shop $1200-1500, when i bought mine the little old lady paid a little under $1,500 for it, at a local shop. Dealer may try to take a leg and an arm.

yeah, shop around. I found an independant infiniti/lexus shop that did mine for like $380, parts included.

Thanks everyone. Good to see that this site is active. But, from this sampling of maintenance costs, I think I can see why prices for these cars are so low. However, they're worth more to me because of their high safety marks.

And to go along with a lot of the high dollar maintenance....if you keep up on the generals (oil changes, flushes and such) the high dollar charges dont come around that often...and if you stick with OEM the first sign of trouble...that will the be last sign of trouble for a while. I've had mine (between when my Mom bought it and I bought it from her) for about 8-9 years and the most I've put into it that "broke" was a new battery(wear and tear item), the upper and lower thermostat housings, rotors(another wear and tear item) and one coil. I do have a few nuisance items to repair but for the most part once I've had something fixed with the right parts...the problem hasnt rearrisen.

as far as i know no one makes any aftermarket suspension anymore however several companies such as Monroe, KYB, and Koni have made suspension products in the past but were discontinued in 2001...they could custom make the struts and shocks but then again the price of parts would go up as you could have guessed...almost everything performance part on my 94 J30 has to be fabricated from the headers to the cold air intake....even when u upgrade the exhaust it will have to be a custom job....parts are few and far between but i digress...suspension parts have been made and are occasionally sold on ebay but your best bet is to try and find the parts sitting on some shelf somewhere especially where j30s tend to be somwehat common...best of luck to you
