i have my jwt ecu running with 14-17 degrees total timing, and afr's being in the mid 11's to mid 10's near redline. i'm running 2 step colder plugs and i put a filter on my valve cover breather.

when i floor it, i noticed on the safc that it shows some high number in the 160 range. this would happen on a hot day, when i was running only 1 step colder plugs. now that i've switched to 2 steps colder, it only happens when i'm in high gear.

now i was flooring it today, and i noticed again that my knock reading was high ( in the 90's ) but this was after repeatedly flooring it in third on the highway. and after that i let the car cool alittle and i floored it in second and the knock reading was at 168. i graphed the data via safc showing knock vs. rpm. i noticed that at around 5000rpm or so, there was a knock then it went away. i then tried flooring it repeated times and the knock never came up again.

now the question is, when a car knocks wouldn't it always knock, or continuely knock on boost till redline? i mean all i got was a blip in the graph for knock. does this seem like noise? but the numbers are very very big for noise though, and i don't feel like writing it off cause if its really knocking, i'm not sure how long this engine can take it.

thanks for the help guys.

Was the knock only present at 5000rpm? I've had my car start to knock and it would happen much earlier than that ~4000rpm. I always got off the gas immediately, so I don't know if it would continue to knock until redline. Unless your ready to rebuild your engine I wouldn't suggest trying it either. Was the knock audible, or did you just pick it up on your sensor? I would suggest turning down the boost, pistons are expensive......

well it happens when i can't even see it knocking. the revs go by and its back to zero, had to check peak readings to see the knock. i also wouldn't know what rpm it happens in unless i plot the graph out. oh well i'll just have to back off timing by a degree or two to be safe then.

i c

try this solution, revert back to stock and bolt turbo kit on your friend Lo's KA and see if it does the same thing.

^lol, i thought you were being serious for a sec.

s14tat, did you bother to click on the link? our passive response sensors don't read noise. a high number doesnt necessarily mean it's knocking.

sup lo.

back to topic. from what i am understanding is that the problem with the flat plane type knock sensor is that it might not pick up certain frequencies. however, i am picking up large frequencies, whether or not they mean its knocking or not, i'd rather play it safe then sorry. i just pulled timing back by around 2 degrees. hopefully that'll solve the problem.

also everytime it happens, the knock is not audible. however just becasue you can't hear it doens't mean its not happening.
