(im posting the whole convo so you know everything i know)

alright thank you man, the only reason why i haven't flaked out yet is because the car is so clean. so as long as he has the title in hand and i give him cash, he fills out a bill of sale and gives me the title, after that i take it to the dmv right? EDIT he responded and told me that he should have it in 2 weeks which is when i am going to look at it. if he dosnt have the title, like you said, im not going to take the risk.PapaSmurf2k3 wrote:Yeah just wait until he gets the title.
He sounds like he's telling the truth, but its still not worth taking the risk. Once he's got your cash, there's no reason for him to follow through and get you the title later.
update on the situation: there recently was another 95 240sx put up for sale last night, has alot more rust on the rockers and rear quarter panels, but is auto and has a good motor. im considering this one as long as the frame is good.PapaSmurf2k3 wrote:Or wait til he has the title to even go look at it. Not sure how far it is from you, but I wouldn't even take the time to look at it without the title.
Just an update, also i do have a welder. today i went to look at the car, went to his place 30 minute drive and he told me he couldnt get it to idle after waiting for 15 more minutes. afterwards he tried so hard to get me to buy it, he sayd " you could toe it" and "im going to change the price on craigslist to 2500 if you dont pick it up today"PapaSmurf2k3 wrote:Rust is a b**** man... if you don't have access to a welder, you might want to stay away.
yea i went to look at it and apparently he ran out of gas, highly doubt it but i told him to f*** off and drove home. the whole way home he was saying hes going to put a new motor in it but then the price is 4500, and he said hes chaning the price immediately to 2500AZhitman wrote:Yeah, I'd stay the hell away from that much rust.
To see those rockers, the frame rails are toast. Period. Rust doesn't give a damn, and it's easy to spray undercoating on it and hide it. Run away.
Also, a couple suggestions: When discussing buying a car, don't get distracted. No one cares about the seller's other car, you can discuss that after the deal. Also, don't say, "that doesn't look too bad" or "one cylinder isn't a big deal." Those are both huge issues. The seller isn't your buddy, he wants to make as much $ on the deal as he can... he needs to see you as a critical thinker with something he wants ($) and if you can devalue what he's selling, within reason, you'll pull a good deal.
But that car is not a deal.
