am I getting ripped off?

Well I went to my mechanic today to fix every single problem in my 240 with annoying problems like rattling timing chain/tensioner/guides, brake sqweeking (sp?), rough idling, basically rebuilding the whole ka24de, entire transmission, the grinding noise you hear when you reverse, and an entire tune-up for $400. Do you guys think its too much or too little? I'm not into the whole mechanic rebuilding thing so I don't know the kind of prices they charge. Should I go for it? any advice? thanks

For everything you listed that is WAY too little. I'd be curious how he's going to "fix" all that stuff. Ask for specifics on what he's doing to the car and be very skeptical of his initial estimate.

well I checked back at the mechanic and he said he was a good friend of my parents. Kinda surprised since I never met him before I don't think? *scratches head* Well my parents said yeah we did know him so I asked him why the price was so little and he said hes just charging for parts and no labor. With that being said, even a refurbished auto transmission costs around 700 so im kind of skeptical as to why the price is so low so im going to watch everything he does and see how it turns out. Hopefully by the end of next week I'll have a smooth driving 240sx which I haven't had for a long.....time. I'll update next week with all the progress.
