I'm told by the repair shop in florida to which I sent the unit for repair that the two-prong plug powers the antenna and AM reception.

Sent unit out for repair of common Clarion/Bose problems in 95-96 Maxima/I30s, ie: no display, CD won't play, cuts in and out. All that's fixed, but on reinstallation, the antenna works haphazardly and the AM reception is non-existent.

There don't appear to be any bad connections or breaks in the cords to the antenna itself.

Before I take it to a local car stereo place, I was wondering if anyone had experience or ideas as to why this is happening? Thanks.

Hmm, you are correct, the two prong plug is for the antenna..

As for AM receptions. Could you get stations before? Do you have another radio that you can compare it with? I mean can you get stations on your home radio?

Can you get NO AM stations at all?

Picture this: All the connections are made and the unit is reinstalled. Push the power button and the antenna goes up most of the time. Even still I get all FM stations but the AM stations are peripheral, as if the unit is isnt hooked to the antenna, receiving only what it can on its own.

I'm thinking the antenna kit may need replacement, but I'll have to take it in for that. My wife's car, and she doesn't listen to talk radio so i can live with it, i guess. thanks.

if it worked fine before you sent in your head unit, it is a connection issue. either your plug is not 100% securely connected to your deck or something inside of your deck has an intermittant connection.

get a multi meter and check the antenna bluck there are two prongs that stick out but there should also be a metal tab this should read continuty to ground when tested with you meter and not plugged into the radio.
