i Belive the weight savings are the same, but there are 2 very impertant differences. On the Aluminum flywheels, the friction surface can usually be replaced while the chromoly are usually one peice units. I also know that the Chromoly usually cost an 5hitload more than Aluminum. I have heard of high boost cars shattering aluminum ones, but that Is one thing that your average consumer would not car about.

In My honest opinion, I will always suggest the aluminum, but buy myself the item.Chromoly.

Chromoly is stronger, Ive heard of of aluminum warping and like he said, shattering..

Ive got a TODA chromoly and its awsome.

If your not looking for alot of power aluminum will be fine.

i've got jun ultralight chromoly. :thumbup

I know that doesnt answer your question but look at it this way, If companies like JUN & TODA use chromoly its probably for a reason.

The stock flywheel...that's where it's at :thumbup

If you want to lighten the drivetrain, I say carbon fiber driveshaft would be a better investment.

pff, for the cost of one custom CF driveshaft you can have an enjuku aluminum shaft and a light flywheel of your choice. While its probably overall the same weight loss, IMHO there are benifits. 90% of SR20 owners have no chance of breaking an ALDS, where as any sort of impact on the side/shaft of the CFDS could be disaster.

I still prefer CF if I'm going to do it. When will the driveshaft be impacted?

its not likely it will ever be impacted, BUT it could happen if you drive over something largely un even, a curb incident, road junk, or even from sliding sideways.

I dont aruge the benifits of CF over AL, simply that I, and I would guess most people, cant afford a $1200 DS. Not to mention if you have to buy it twice.
