aluminum pedals

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

taking the advice from Teknical and starting a new thread...

I agree about the overkill on the infinity logo, but maybe just painting over it in silver (if it is stamped in the aluminum) or just polish them off if the paint is on a flat surface.
I don't think I would be putting one on my parking brake, though. I think just the other three will get installed.

Teknical wrote:Keep us up to date on the pedals. Maybe start a new thread (?). They don't look trivial to install. It looks like you have to drill holes and screw them into your existing pedals without even removing them? Also I think the repeated Infiniti logo 4 times on each (non-OEM) pedal is a bit cheesy. Maybe that logo could be polished off of all but the foot rest "dead pedal".

Sport pedals are definitely something missing on this car that I would enjoy. They come on the M's and look and feel great. I had them on a sports car in the past, and they were great. Please post about the quality of this particular eBay item and how the nubs feel under foot.

I would love to see if anyone has these installed yet.

The foot rest "dead pedal" all the way to the left I definitely want to replace. The little plastic cover that comes stock seems very low quality and cheap.

I never use the parking break... might be cool to have it match, but might make it stick out more. Damn I wish they didn't put so many Infiniti logos, but maybe it will look ok installed.

I think it is going to look good, but I am not going to put one on the parking brake. Those photos made that an easy decision. Thanks!

Wow - they got here in less than a week from China.
Quality is decent. Rubber nubbies are grippy and sturdy.

I installed the three pedals in less than an hour with nothing but a flashlight. They look very nice...specially with my blue LED accent lights that shine down there when you open a door. Very nice. I will take a photo in the daylight soon. Very much worth the $41.00 total.

I got mine today and went to put them on. I was hoping they were more like stock where you pull off the original rubber boot and just slide these over. No luck.

Did yours come with instructions? I looked at the pedals and how did you install them? Take off the original rubber cover...or?

There are no screw holes on my pedals after you take off the rubber...

??

I might have seen something on youtube?

You need to bust out your drill. Slide off the rubber covers. Line up and clamp the aluminum pedal on. Mark and Drill (very small bit) holes through metal (brake and parking brake are metal) and then use those very small bolts with the locking washers with the allen-head wrench that should have also come in the package. (I skipped the parking brake)
For the gas pedal and dead pedal, those screw right over the existing locations. Just line them up and screw it in straight.

The good thing is that you really can't see all the logos while you are standing or getting in. Just the one on the dead pedal. I am very pleased with them.

Great find! I just bought a set of these aluminum pedals after reading this and have a quick question for you guys who've installed them. For the deal pedal: did you have any concern that you might hit something by just screwing it in over the existing location? TIA

I was slightly curious as to where those screws would end up, but just went for it anyway. No worries! Must just be carpeting and padding. It doesn't hit any metal.

I still love mine!

I had to order longer screws for the accelerator cover from fastenall. One does slightly hit the stop in the back. I'm not sure that its having any effect. I do like the pedals. They look and feel great. They are particularly good when your shoes are wet from the rain or snow.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I got the pedals without logos (and the completely rectangular dead plate for my 2010 EX) and have so far installed the break and accelerator pedals. Like Teknical says, the screws for the accelerator are too short-mainly the bottom two, which aren't long enough to go all the way through to attach the washers and nuts. So I drilled slightly smaller holes for the bottom two and they seem to stay put. Maybe I'll get slightly bigger pointed screws with more bite (like the ones for the dead plate) for the bottom two.

Other small issues I had were for the brake pedal: the screw holes on the aluminum pedals are quite close to the outer edges of the existing pedals and on the brake pedal that means you have to be very careful when drilling your mount holes as there's not much clearance to get it right. What makes it tougher is that the existing brake pedal is a slippery curved metal surface that makes drilling where you want tricky without drifting--even after using a punch and starting with the smallest drill bit. It's all compounded by the fact that the pedal depresses and there's little room for a drill to fit in at the angle you want to drill at. Also my existing brake pedal is curved at a slightly different angle from the aluminum so I added some rubber shims to get a more secure fit.

XIS, I admit I'm still a bit nervous about installing the dead plate as with my luck I'd screw right into something electrical, so I might have to pull things up and have a look to see what's underneath. Let me know if you are willing to part with your unused aluminum parking brake.

All the issues aside, overall they aren't too difficult to install and I have to say that it's way worth it since the upgraded pedals add tremendously to the appeal of the interior and feel great. Perfect for a luxury CUV with some sporting edge that looks as nice as the EX does. Can't wait to get the remaining two in!

Ok, got around to pulling things up from under the dead pedal:

Peeled back:

It's styrafoam! Couldn't remove it, but gauging the thickness from the edge it seems thick enough (along w/ the carpet and plastic covering) to support the screws...so no worries:Image
No parking brake installed because the mount holes on mine are too far apart to mount to the existing pedal w/o it being completely crooked (XIS want to sell me yours?):

Anyhow, here it is installed. Very happy with the results every time I open the door :bigthumb: :

Looks great and thanks for the info about the Styrofoam!

(I ended up using my parking brake pedal)
