I was just wondering if adding the $90 aluminum kick plate option to the Versa SL model might cause moisture to accumulate UNDER the kick plate thereby potentially causing rust in the future. What say "you all"?

"Potential" is quite a loaded word. Yes, there is POTENTIAL... but if installed properly, it is extremely minimal.

Do you salt your roads where you live? If so, that is probably more of a concern than your kick plates themselves. (And why west coast cars don;t rust much.)

Unless you intend to keep the car for over 20 years, I wouldn't worry much. They have corrosion well under control these days. If the car is undamaged.

I'm not sure what the frame of the Versa is constructed of, but I'm sure it's not constructed of pure steel like older vehicles that rusts pretty quickly up North and near beaches. It would be a corrosion resistant steel alloy at the least. Plus you have a 5 year rust warranty so if anything happens in that time, you're covered. Like versabundus said, If you plan on having your car for that long, then I would start worrying. If you're really worried, you could run a small bead of silicone around the inside edges of the plates prevent any chance of water getting under there.
