Alright, here it is. I do no believe that the aluminum driveshaft that people are selling is an entirely custom unit. There are a few reasons. But most importantly, the same person is not always selling them. I tend to believe that they come from an existing car. Further, I think it may be a Ford. Anyway does anyone know anything about this?

It's custom. They don't just make nissan, they make other cars' custom driveshaft too. beside, they have 2 options; steel, aluminum. so. it has to be custom made cuz ford don't give you that option.

No link, just all of the aluminum driveshafts available. Are they just cutting and welding a driveshaft together, or is it an off the shelf part that they are passing as non-abs 240sx. Here is a good example:

It is not being sold by the driveshaft shop, which is the only reputable company I know that makes them. Guessing by his feedback and screen name, I would guess that it is some Ford guy who found a secret out. I want to know the secret.

Looks like a decent D/S...doesn't say it's balanced though, ask him. Then let me know what you dig up.

I had a custom steel driveshaft made for me once with those u-joints on it and I snapped one right in half doing some spirited launching. Those greasable u-joints suck. The drivshaft is definatlly not from another car, its a custom made driveshaft for sure, any driveshaft shop can make one for you. Im using monster ford pickup joints now with a custom machined input flange on the diff, I haven't had any problems breaking joints anymore

He emailed me back and said that it is balanced, and 41.5 inches from yoke to yoke.

Lucky find for me. I was visiting a local shop looking for valve shims (Looking to buy some, email me at Driftking240 (at) sbglobal (dot) net if you have some). And I found a genuine Driveshaft Shop steel driveshaft that weighs 15lbs. Paid 200.This brings the total weight reduction on the driveline to 25.5lbs. And tell me if my calculations are wrong (I am the world's fastest paper racer!!!) that lowers driveline losses from an estimated 20% to an estimated 11.6%. What do you think?

They just had the one, it was on a 240 they bought with a windowed block. So they are putting a V8 in it. Turns out the kid who it belonged to had a bad driveshaft, and rather than get a used one (which he said he could not find), he bought this one. Lucky for me!

Seems like the ends would break on an aluminum shaft. I guess not since people use them.

FYI, the drive line loss is only about 10% on a manual. I dynoed 127RWHP on a stock E with 100K - Mustang dyno.

Anyway, it would be interesting to see a side by side test of a low weight drive shaft. I wonder what the returns would be.

I know I have heard that on a Civic you get something in the nieghborhood of 1.5whp for every pound of weight removed from the driveline. So I would guess something like 7whp.
