My 2011 Altima won't start. I depress the brake pedal, press the start button car automatically goes to "On" position does not stop @ "ACC" it does make some noises like a faint relay chattering for 1-2 secs, the inst cluster lights come "on" but car starter does not turn over, radio comes on and all other functions ie. blower moter, power windows work. Brake lights come "On" when brake pedal pressed which seems to rule out faulty brake switch. If it was an older car I would suspect starter or starter solenoid.
Any suggestions to further isolate?

Yeah it sounds like the starter/starter solenoid, or a low battery. Have you tried jumping it off?

No unfortunately I was on my way to work when it hapenned so I just took the other car, I definetly will try a jump start once I return. Is there a way I can apply 12VDC direct to the starter to further isolate. The chattering does not sound like the old school starter solenoids, it was very faint like a relay buried deep.

Yeah if you can get to it, you can try jumping the starter. I'm not sure which terminals you'd have to jump to though. I'm sure it can be found in the factory service manual.

Once I returned home I tried it again changing thru 'modes' by applying brake and not applying everything worked normal short of the engine cranking when it should just a relay chattering sounds similar to what solenoids sound like when there is not sufficient power to engage starter. There are forums that talk about a security sys that manifests itself with a light in the console 'car with a key inside it' mine was not 'on' I attempted to boost it at the batt on the first try nothing happened but the second attempt was successful, now it starts good, I don't think its the batt because I didn't let it charge very long and restarted several time the starter turns fast, the lights are bright etc..
Maybe my starter is starting to go, worn brushes, dirty commutator etc.. either way more than likely means a new starter cause its my daily driver and I cant have laid up waiting for a starter rebuild.

Thanks for the comments

Yeah it might have just been sticky for some reason, and the extra voltage from the jump was just enough to get it over the edge. Glad it's working again though!

Hurry up and take your car to the nearest Nissan dealership for diagnosis. :)

LOL.. U funny Seldom seen, but unfortunately my Nissan ain't going to dealer cause I didn't buy extended warranty, and most their mechanics don't do any fault finding just interested in hooking up to the diagnostics for 100$, If it was a recall, I would consider it.
