Altima vs. Sonata

i like altimas but i chose my coupe over a new 325i BMW and a 2004 E320 benz and even a brand new 350z. ill tell you right now theres no way in hell i would have done that for the sedan, but then again thats why i drive the coupe and not the sedan.

True, and people from the mainland wonder why "the white man" is bashed on constantly. It is people like SHIFT_CR which give an entire race of people great shame. I really feel for you my brother; I'm not mad, I just find it quite humorous that in 08 that such ignorance still exists

Not to say that we can't take a joke. We make fun of everyone here in Hawaii. Its just that we only point out the really obvious and well known stereo types, the kind where even people of that certain race will admit to.

Examples: Korean temper, lazy Filipino, cheap Chinese, big scary Samoan/Hawaiian.

No one is really offended by those because they are commonly observed traits. Also, no one means to dehumanize anyone by making these jokes.

But yeah, its all good.

Btw, I'm Chinese. I am surrounded by Korean people in real life (I have a lot of Korean friends)....didn't know it was like this on the net too

Ok time for an unbiased opinion. Sonata's and Hyundai in general has come a long way since their new generation of automobiles.

I've test driven a 2005 Altima before and a 2006 Sonata before and here are my observances.

1) The VQ engine has so much low end torque which I absolutely love, going up hills every morning at 1500 RPM's and still going faster is a definite pleasure.

2) The Styling of the Altima is very unique and sadly I must say the Sonata did copy a few styling ideas, most noticeably the rear looks exactly like the 03-05 Accord sedans.

3) I like fun in my ride and the 3.5SE has a way better suspension than the Sonata did. The sonata felt more Camry-like

4)As far as reliability and build quality, I would assume that this is a non-issue as I've never heard of a problem with anyone who has a 2005 3.5SE and I have a friend who's got a V6 Sonata and he hasnt really had any problems either. Road noise was quieter on the Altima.

5) Sonata takes a hit on the cheapness factor, don't get me wrong we're not comparing a lexus to a ford here but between both cars I felt a little better sitting in the Altima. I must say though, the 02-04 Altimas had one of the cheapest interiors I've ever seen.

6) Finally resale, definitely a win for the Altima here.

7) Roominess? I know the stats say the Sonata has a bigger cabin but I felt more relaxed sitting in the Altima, I dunno what to say about that one.

So basically if you want a sporty ride and like fun in your drive and don't mind paying 20c more at the pump go for the Altima.

If you don't really care about having the better engine or sporty feel and wanna save some money in your purchase go for the Sonata. I'm not sure about the Sonata as far as how long it will last but those VQ's are pretty near bulletproof.

Can you (or any 05-06 3.5SE owners) tell me what RPM the engine does at certain speeds (ie. 50 MPH, 60 MPH, 70 MPH, 80 MPH)?

And also same for the Sonata?

In response to your question, I notice it holds RPM's around 2000 up to 60MPH.......70 MPH gets to be around 2500, and 80 MPH or up is around 3000. This is what I notice at least, sorry I cannot answer your Sonata inquiry.
