Not trying to start a war here but my friend has an 94 altima and says that automatic vs automatic the altima would win against a dohc 240. He posted this on altimas.net and they agreed with him. Their reasoning was drive train lost. I disagreed and thought that the weight difference and gear ratios and supposedly 5 more horse power would make up for this. What do you guys think?

but a maxima would whoop up on a 240sx...

hehe i drove one... :friut wow it was alot of fun

and it was my girl-friends parent's car...not my gf (unfortunately) :( she's hot too...but she's taken *sniff*

but anyways...this car really made me believe the speedo went up to 160 for a reason!

i coulnt take it there tho cuz it was during the day and it was just to deliver it to the dealership and then take it back to their place...

Im not really sure. The stock 240 isnt really very fast, I donno why people keep comparing it to other cars... anyways, if you're gonna account for drivetrain loss, you've also gotta factor in that the altima is probably also much heavier. I dont have numbers in front of me, but its gotta be..

No. The Altima will not win.

I posted this up on another thread somewhere...I raced an Altima with my auto 98 240 and he was like two car lengths behind me by the end of the race.

be a good race i think. 240 shoud win just because of weight.

on a road course, no shot, between weight and traction, altima stands no chance, now an newer altima (o2+) would hold its own on a road course, be the 24o would more than likely still come out on top (assuming the altima is a 2.5)

yeah, road course - 240sx easy, but there has been altimas running 15.7 with just an intake in the quarter

doesn't both cars carry the same motor?? thats what i though. and isn't the altima more of a sedan?? i would say motor for motor, the 240's would win b/c of weight.

hmmm..well if we were going year for year considering the S15 (at the rate the 240's were giong and if they were still shipped to US soil to this day) being a 240, then the USDM S15 which would be,,,01' 240sx would definantly win. :D

I raced my friend's 97 Altima GXE when I still had my 92 ka24de with K&N Filter and custom 2.5" exhaust. He had me on the launch and took me by a car and a half the whole way until I got into third gear and started pulling on him. Right when my front bumper was a couple inches away from his rear bumper he cut in front of me and started braking. That was only like a 0-60 run...I asked him to run the estimated quarter mile that my friends marked down with their gtech and he didn't want to. Unfortunately he disagreed to run me again and is still happy about that win until I got my sr20 installed. I ran him at night with dead dashlights and still did pretty good considering I didn't see what I was shifting at hahaha...Altimas are quick cars, but lack the power after 3rd gear when the 240sx starts hauling arse.

I own both cars, my alty is an auto and my 240 is a stick. The 240 is definitely faster and more fun to drive but I love my alty as a daily driver she whomps everybody off the line and nobody expects it as a 4 door car. I love both of my Nissan's but the 240 just a little more.

thats the problem, 3rd gear in an altima blows, but a 3rd gear from a gti-r and the final drive gear is swappable

The original post compared automatic to automatic. Not sure about the '94 Alty, but my '98 has exactly the same gear ratios as an automatic 240.

Final drive in the Alty is only 3.619 vs the 240's 4.083.

The 240 is quicker in a straight line...and we won't even talk about the twisties.

i dont see how anyone can even compare these two STOCK cars, the same engine, ones lighter, with a stiffer chassis, and has RWD, makes no sense to even bother if u had the altima, with no mods, there is literally no way in hell the altima could win, unless the 24o forgot to hit the gas or had a reaction time so bad he shouldnt be driving
