Well, I finally got around to unhooking the turbine rev sensor (or should I say pulling the wires out on accident because the stupid connector wouldn't come undone).

Now the car no longer has the problem. I'm guessing that means my diagnosis of it being the torque-converter lockup system was correct?

Is there anything I can do about it besides replace the transmission?

not sure what the original problem was but if you disconnect the rev sensor it reverts to the speedometer as a type of fail safe to determine shift points. There is actually a problem listed in a sticky about shift problems with a 240 , the test is to disconnect the sensor and make the TCM use the speedometer to determine if the rev sensor is the problem.

I think you found your problem. The rev sensor should be replaced.
