We have a 93 Altima - a standard transmission with about 179,000 km- which has now begun to stall about five minutes after it is started in the morning. The engine will not catch at all for about ten minutes; then it will restart and run smoothly for the rest of the day. We have had the distributor, distributor wires, spark plugs, fuel filter and oxygen sensor all replaced but the car is still playing the same tricks.( The dealer's computer had told us to replace the distributor.) Does anyone have any ideas what it might be? This is getting very expensive!

The distributor was the second new one in a year (!) and the car still is acting up. Thank you.

I will have to check that. Will codes come up if the car is running well? (Sorry, I don't know what ECU codes are..)The previous computer reading showed only the code for the distributor which seems to have been incorrect.

what kind of spark do you get when it wont start? you car computer(ecu) will store any fault codes. to test for spark, pull spark plug and touch ground with it. ground being the engine chasis. was the car in a no-start condition at dealer?

this mite be a little off but it sounds like a problem i had in one of my other cars (a 90s sumthing chevy cavilier) i would start the car and every thing would run fine but when i crept up to a stop sign or red light it would all of the sudden die for no apparent reason no high temp no loss of fluids or spark... i was confused because the motor ran beautifully it turned out the flaw wasnt in the motor it was in the transmission i had a faulty torque converter solenoid easilly fixed after i bought it for 80 bucks from the dealer!if thats not it i dont know what to tell you? its gotta be a sensor or somethin tellin the car to shut off cuz somethins not rite even though everything might be alright

After the engine reaches a certain temperature the computer changes the fuel mixture automaticaly. Im guessing its the maf sensor because it is temperature controled. The car is hard to start cold right? After it warms up its ok right? Be sure that the timming is correct. Was this checked when the distributor was repalced.?
