Ok, not sure if anyone else has tried this yet but I'm very curious to see what my Altima SER will sound like if I install an intake, headers, go "cat-less", etc. but keep the stock rear mufflers. I looked on youtube and all I could find were people that either had just a cat-back or had stock exhausts with intakes or just went with straight pipes. If you've already replaced everything up front but kept your stock muffler, please let me know how it sounds. For everyone else, this is just another car project thread but feel free to give me suggestions, etc.

Step 1: Cutting the RezMy friend has a VW R32 and he removed his resonator and now his exhaust sounds pretty nasty, so I decided to give it a try as well...

We cut the resonator out and went to put in the straight pipe and then discovered something interesting... The resonator pipe on the SERs are apparently EMPTY as in there is absolutely no packing or anything inside the pipe even though from the outside the pipe bows out and then back down, making it look like there's stuff inside it, but no...

So, we welded the straight pipe in place of the "resonator" and the only difference I noticed was a *slight* increase in loudness to my stock exhaust setup but it was enough for me to notice.

Step 2: Intake...I purchased the Injen SP CAI from http://www.gripmotorsports.com....html and it's awesome!! I am not running the intake with the lower tube so it is in "short-ram" mode right now and is very solid (not wobbly, pieces don't shift, etc.). When my RPMs hit about 4k RPMs the sound that then comes from the engine is throaty and then it hits 5k to redline it "sounds like a V8" according to my friends and is very loud and aggressive. Passing people under overpasses when I downshift is fun too, it sounds like a streetbike or something just flew by them

Step 3: Headers and DownpipeI'm starting to do research on headers but i'm not sure which ones to go with but I know I want to get one that is cat-less. I'll post back when I decide what to go with.

...to be continued
