Just recieved it in the mail today it says " On some 2002 and 2005-2006 altima and sentra models equipped with the 2.5 engine there is a possibility that the engine might stop running while being driven due to the program in the Electronic Control Module If the engine stops running while driving this could result in a crash without warning" It also says to just simply take it to your nearest nissan dealer and it should take about one hour to complete but they may need it longer based upon their work schedule,or parts availability

Just thought I should spread the word just incase you other altima owners haven't heard. I live in Ohio so I wasn't sure if you guys had recieved it yet or if you were even going to for that matter so there it is.

It's probably a notice of the 0712 or 0606 recall. It should have a campaign ID assigned to it. If you give me that, I can help you out more with what it is.

Both of those are ECM reprograms, but if the vehicle starts dropping in power during the reprogramming, it will fry the ECM, which is why they put the disclaimer about "parts availability" in the notice.

I'm not quiet understanding what you mean by a campaign ID help me out bud and how serious is it I mean obviously if it burns up the ECM it's not good but are they reprogramming it to where it knocks it down on horsepower or what I'm not quite understanding

You're right Diesel_89 - I posted a thread about the recall notice about three weeks ago - and still haven't had it fixed lol

The engine shut off on me once - it was a bit scary, but, whatever - I'll do it when I have time

I had this recall done and feel that the car shifts a little bit smoother. Maybe it's just in my head though.

Hmm, that'll be interesting to pay attention to once mine is fixed. It's a bit smoother since I installed the Injen RD CAI since back pressure is being cut back, but I had my car serviced early after purchasing my 05 because I was getting hard shifts after driving high speeds and the check engine light would come on. The dealership said my transmission was exerting more output than what it was suppose to, causing a jerking motion so hard that it felt I was being rear ended.

I'll let you know if I feel the same after mine is looked at.

Just picked the car up from having the ecm recall performed on my '05 Altima and I am very discouraged. Lost major responsive horsepower. It used to ride like a 6 cylinder but now I know it's a 4 cylinder. It's like running with concrete around your ankles now. I'll be calling NIssan tomorrow

I just picked mine up and feel the same way. My Stillen exhaust doesnt sound the same either. Im going to see what I can do around this. If I get any positive results, I'll let you know. Im glad it's not just me.

Did you call Nissan? I put on my Eibach kit today and took it for a drive to feel the difference and now I almost think it's not different after the recall fix. The only difference I notice is that it sounds a bit quieter when I start the car - I don't get the equally mean sound from the Stillen exhaust

Give me an update. I'll let you know after my 80 mile drive to my other house if I notice any difference on the highway.

BTW, the Eibach is really nice. More people were looking at my car I noticed.

So You guys are saying that the recall is making your cars sound/run different? I'm kind of scared to take it in now kinda want to take my chances if thats the case

At first I thought so, but now I don't. Our cars adjust to our driving habits anyway.

btw, it wouldn't be as scary as if the engine went off while ur going 85, like it did to me lol

If I remember correctly, the computer adjusts to the way that you drive the car. What you guys have to remember is that the reprogram sets the computer up to whatever Nissan has told it to be at. So for those of you who drive fast, it will take some time for the computer to adjust back to the way you drive it.

Yes, CPS, exactly. That's why I said it should adjust. I took a 160 mile trip yesterday, and mine is already starting to average out to how it used to drive.

Still haven't made an appointment for it yet but it's starting to make sense to me now
