I just got a response from cattman on the development of headers for the 07-08 Altima's. It seems as if he most likely will have them out; it's just a matter of time. He's actually buying an 08 himself Below is the entire email so please read it if you have the time. I'm getting a little excited because it seems like things are finally happening for our cars.
If anyone has tried, or knows someone who has tried to fit 05-06 headers on the 07-08's, please let us know. It would be very useful information for Brian and the development of the headers.
Haha also read the part where he talks about the other forum and a few being real jerks. Hmm...I wonder if it's who I think it is Uhmm...No comment.
"Hi Eric,
Thanks for taking the time to touch base with us, we're honored by yourinterest in our products.
Cattman Performance is keenly interested in expanding from our Maxima baseto include the Altima, particularly since that's where Nissan's shifting itslarge sports sedan emphasis. Let me answer your question in the context ofour 05+ Altima V6 exhaust program.
We've just released the first part in this series, a performance y-pipe(picture attached) that fits the 05/06 Altima V6 w/ 5A transmission. The Cattmany-pipe in the picture does not have the cat, but its available with aMaremont Metal'Cat, the highest flowing street-legal cat known to me.
In the next 1-2 weeks we'll be releasing the Y-pipe version that will fit05/06 Altimas with 5/6M transmissions; its only slightly different than theauto version in the picture.
Note the equal-length downpipes in the picture. We use that design becausethese are ultimately meant to be used with headers (the equal length aspectis useful with header manifolds, less so with stock manifolds). Now thatthe 2 y-pipes are out of the way (just about) we will turn to the manifoldsmeant to go with each (so we'll have full header sets for all 05/06 Altimasonce that phase is complete). Assuming that the same manifolds will fitboth 04-07 Maximas and 05/06 Altimas (as the y-pipes do), I hope to have atleast one of the two manifold sets ready in January.
Long lead-up to answering your question, I haven't forgotten...
The critical question that I can't answer right now (but you might be ableto) is, "does the 07 and/or 08 Altima use the same stock y-pipe as the 06Altima?" Obviously a lot changed between 06 and 07, so I assume the worstbut hope for the best. I'm wondering if either of the two stock y-pipescarried over from 2006 to 2007. If the y-pipe carries over, there's a goodchance that the manifolds will too.
So, I can answer your question by saying that we absolutely intend to offerwhatever exhaust parts are required to completely set up the 07/08 Altima, but when that occurs depends on whether we're lucky with carry-over, and ifnot, how long it will take to get out of the 05/06 manifolds and on into the07/08 parts.
Have you heard of anyone putting one of the old Custom Enterprise y-pipes onan 07 or 08 sedan or coupe? I would think that someone has at leasteyeballed this to see if it would work. Has anyone hung a set of Hotshotson their 07/08 and made it work (other than the CEL)? Installing the HS setwouldn't prove anything for sure, but would indicate the overallconfiguration is the same.
So that's my story, what do you hear about other companies preparing headersor y-pipes for the 07/08 Altima V6?
BTW, to illustrate our intent regarding the Altima, I'll be purchasing a new08 Altima as soon as I get a hard bite on the Cattmobile II (02 Max SE 6M,our parts development car). Can't seem to find one equipped the way I wantit, so I guess I'll have to order, but we're real excited about bringing ina new development platform.
The timing of your email is coincidental because its my intention to becomemore involved with the Maxima and Altima groups on nico.com and I was goingto do something about that after catching up post-SEMA. I tried to do alittle promotion in the Altima section of nissanclub earlier in the y-pipedevelopment process, and found that crowd was pretty harsh - a lot of guyswere supportive, but a few seemed to take enormous pride in being reallyrude jerks (without much criticism from other members) so we decided to letthat slide until we had products out there, and let them speak forthemselves. We sold the first batch of the new y-pipes primarily to maximacustomers, but we'll be actively marketing the next batch to Altima driversand we'd like to get some exposure on nicoclub.
Its been a while since I've talked to Greg Childs, I don't suppose you havehis email address handy do you?
Brian"

"Just a PS to my previous message. For the sake of full disclosure, I shouldmention the same caveat I usually put out there during discussions about ourheader plans.
Everyone's aware there were O2 sensor CEL issues with the Hotshot header seton 05+ Altimas and Maximas. We're fortunate to know about that on the frontend of the project, but the fact remains that this won't be a viable part(commercially) if we can't solve that issue. I'm assuming we'll find asolution, but you never know for sure until its resolved.
