It seems that lately my 1999 Altima GXE (automatic) has been a bit hungry for gas and it seems to be disappearing much quicker than it used to.

I'm wondering what things could cause this so i can look into it and see if i can either fix it myself or get someone to look at it.

Someone told me it could be the filter but it looks clean to me. Could it also be the Float that's messed up? (how would i go about checking that?)

It's also been making some weird noises, like gurdling or bubbling sounds when it first starts up

And seems to be a bit heavy when i accelerate like it doesnt want to go.

OH and the brakes always get squeeky in the mornings I don't know if that happens to anyone else but i had them replaced by sears once and checked after they continued to squeek, is this normal or is something up?

Any ideas on what this could be let me know, the cars completely stock other than a system and has 53k miles on it. I was thinking about taking it to get a full tune up.

Hey nice altima, where'd you get that custom 12 emblem done? and how'd you get the 12 on the brake light? :D

floats are in carbs man.

if you havent changed your fuel filter in the last 20 g's.....change it.

I would scan for codes. sounds to me like your car may be running in "limp" mode. when one or more of your sensors are bad, the ecu goes into a fail safe mode, which usually causes the vehicle to run rich.

Yeah but I am sure you can buy these and get them painted any color you want. The other place I know does it but for UBER dollars about 30 bucks a letter.

Well the KA24DE is not the most efficient engine out there, so don’t expect much.

This is what I would do, get an exact reading on your average mpg, so fill it up until it clicks, drive around, when its time to fill up go to the same gas station and at the same pump, fill the gas until it clicks and dived the miles you drove by the amount of fuel you put it.

Then

Change: air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor (if needed), oil and oil filter if its time,

Add a gas and an oil additive.

Add air to your tires (use the higher end number) as suggested by manufacture,

Take out junk you carry in the car and trunk.

The repeat steps above and see if it has improved.

Font and color I got mine free from him but every one else pays UBER bucks. your best bet is to get the one from the link i gave you and then take it to a paint shop and get it painted any color you want.

threads like this make me not want to waste my time trying to help people out. this guy is more concerned w/ little letters than if his car is running right.

Good call.

I think that your best solution is a tune up. Mainly change the fuel filter if you can't get the entire tune up that alone will make your car run better. It may look clean but still be dirty b/c of all the build that happens in there.

I had the same problem on mine. It wasn't accelerating well, gas mileage dropped so I cleaned the air filter and that went away. I also have the gurgling sound in the morning, when I start it up and give it gas its like a giant is drinking out of a straw. Im taking her in to the shop tomorrow for a check up, Ill se what they tell me.

sorry to bump this, but I'm pulling my hair out over this. my girlfriend has an 01 altima, and its getting 14 mpg. I've changed the plugs/wires/cap/button/primary o2 sensor. the oil and air filter were just changed. I inspected the primary cat yesterday, and its perfect. I'll change the fuel filter this week, but that usually leans out a car, due to reducing flow to the engine. what else can it be? could the mass air be dirty/bad? I'm used to working on hondas, and this thing has me baffled. thanks for any help.
