Yesterday I picked up a nice 89 240sx for 700. I got it so cheap because it spun a bearing and the engine is well on it's way out.

One of my friends has an Altima that was t-boned that he'd give to me for basically free.

It's a 1997 and the engine is perfectly fine. O.. and it has 1500 miles on it.

I've been searching on a bunch of different forums and I've gotten mixed results.

Can I put the 97 Altima ka24de motor in my 89 240 (5 spd)? Can I use the ecu out of a 95 240 to run it?Will it bolt up or is there a ton of stuff to make, change? What all would I need for the swap?

Thanks in advance-Alex

O.. and I was reading it has a 6100 rpm redline. If I balanced the crank and put in springs and retainers, would that take me up to 7k?

i thought you couldn't do it because something to do with the way the drivetrain set-up is. something about a transaxle not linking up the same to a transmission..

not sure really...

Won't work. Rebuild the KA yourself. If you can balance a crank and install new springs and retainers some new journals shouldn't be too hard.

You don't want to take a KA to 7k. An unbalanced crank isn't even half of it. It's a pretty massive 4 cylinder. The stroke is just too long. Sure you could probably get to 7k, but there isn't all that much to gain up there. Be happy with the rpm you have. It makes a pretty torquey 6xxx rpm.

Post in the B/S/T forums... there's always a KA24DE for sale somewhere.

Oh yeah. I forgot - my stock KA goes to 6800 or so. I didn't know they went as low as 6100, but they to vary and it hardly seems to matter.

The head swap is possible. Search the forums. There should be several threads on it.
