Quick question.. Why doesnt our cars have that import sound that a 350z or G35 have even with a aftermarket exhaust. I have the nismo cat-back and intake on my 3.5 and it sounds nice, BUT nowhere near the amazing import sound of my buddy's nismo cat-back with intake G35??

Thanks

I agree, the sound comes from the motor, not the exhaust. All the exhaust does is open it up more or close it more. Every motor sounds different. You can play around all day with different exhausts but the Coupe wil never sound like a 350Z or a G3X. There is too much difference to make it comparable.

I understand that the engine creates the exhaust note, but if am not mistaken we both have VQ35de engines.

They have HRVQ35 engines I think. It stands for high revving, at least new ones have those. There motors are not the same as ours, very similar. I know how you feel, the G35 and 350z's sound amazing. I don't think their are parts to make our cars sound exactly like them, only similar.

Yes we both have the VQ engine, just different versions kind of...

this is not entirely true...

2003 - 2006 G35s and 350Z's have the VQ35DE.. but they are tuned slightly differently from each other, and from our VQ35DE. Also, from my understanding it is EVRYTHING about the engine from the intake manifold, engine, headers, y pipes, and exhaust that give the engine the exhaust its characteristic sound...

and honestly, no offense tp the OP, but unfortunately for us, the NISMO exhaust for the A/C is the weakest sounding aftermarket exhaust for our cars... in terms of sound, the Tanabe and Borla sound much more aggresive than the Nismo! Unfortunately, NISMO gave us the short end of the stick

the thing is, the G35 has the best sounding exhaust note of almost any sprts car I'v ever heard with a price tag under 40K.. there's nothing wrong with striving for that sound whie not wanting to be one of the 1.5million G35s on the road... IMO, the exhaust note on the G35 is sweeter than that on the G37...

NONONONO... The TANABE & BORLA are both axle-back "Mufflers" the TANABE sounds weaker than the BORLA ((but)) the ARTISAN cat- back exhaust has the best-probably loudest exhaust! hands down

Owners of the different exhaust systems are always going to side with the one they have.

But I got a surprise from a Porsche owner the other day. He told me my AC, under full throttle, sounded exactly like his track RSR, but a bit quieter. I have never heard my car from outside - no one has ever driven it but me - but if I had asked for a sound, a race-prepped RSR would be it!

Axle back or not, he said terms of sound, not power gains. You haven't heard the Tanabe in person then. Most or all of these video clips you here don't do justice at all. You have to experience in person. Rob knows because I had let him test out the Tanabe exhaust during the first socal meet. As for the I4, I can agree it sounds weak, but that is because no R&D was done for the I4.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the 08 and 09 3.5? Nismo says that an exhaust is in development. I was just wondering what the difference is?

I am currently torn between the Borla and the Nismo.

I recearched all exhausts before buying the ARTISAN...also saw that MECHEDDADI was giving up his exhaust, "Attracts too much attention".Heard/saw all the internet vids...& the ARTISAN was the best choice. (if you love deep exhaust notes)

"would ferguson have said the same thing if i had that PEPBOYS muffler?"

Not trying to be a post whore with this, but listen.

Mine with Borla does sound very much like a Z/G. Once the Y-pipes come out, even more so since it eliminates the 3rd cat and adds a bit more growl.

+1 on G35 exhaust remark.

Speaking of Nismos:Can anyone point me in the best direction on who to speak to if I wanted to pick up a Nismo Cat-Back for my AC 3.5SE?

I emailed a couple of dealerships in the Greater Toronto Area and was given quotes from $1100-$1300, with notes saying that no Nismo's for the AC are in stock in Canada and it would need to be special ordered.

Oh and Loop, what body work do you have done on your AC? It looks sick.

I looked into the NISMO before I went Borla. Around the GTA, I found my best bet was online at Lee Auto parts. They had them in stock, and the cross-border shipping was reasonable compared to some of the others. Maybe cheaper places now.. but back then it was the best deal.
